"Before I start. We dine out at least 3x per week at 4-5 star restaurants so this is not a “these people never eat out and had too high of expectations review”. To demonstrate, we ate out at a Michelin restaurant in Amsterdam last night...which we will review and give a 5 star rating to shortly. So... what went wrong this evening. The food was actually pretty good. The three of us ordered: 1) Scallops and Risotto with truffles. Perfectly prepared. Excellent taste and different notes of flavors. 2) 3 course again the food was very good 3) 7 course 4 of the courses were very good. Two of the courses used the same sauce. All of the courses had the same shaved truffle which became very monotonous. The steak was the end of the loin and was not tenderloin. I ordered my steak rare and it was a cut that would have been better served medium well due to the groin and tendons in the meat. I would definitely not recommend the beef as it appeared the table beside us had the same issue. The biggest issue that I have with the restaurant, beside the lack of creativity in using truffles in the dishes, was service. We sat at 8pm, finished our meal at 11:15pm, but waited 15minutes between each serving. We finished out Chateauneuf Du Pape bottle of wine and our bottle of water 2hrs into our meal and were never offered another drink. We asked for butter with our bread which we never received, my sons drink was not delivered and we had to ask for it a second time. The extra Sauce aux Poivre that I ordered with the meal never arrived, and we had to order it again after the steak arrived. The restaurant was not busy, so the poor service cannot be blamed on that. I do consulting for a living and am the CEO for an international firm. Both my wife and I worked in hospitality in University. The back of this restaurant did their job. The executive chef needs to realize that you can’t simply add shaved truffles to every dish without changing up the flavors. The front staff quite simply needs to replaced. There was no manager to great people and no one came around to ask how our meal was. The issue is a will and skill one... the servers don’t know enough about proper service and they don’t seem to care. This is not a good combination. We will not return and would advise you to consider other options."

"Decided to head here for take away going by good reviews received, walked into a fairly empty restaurant at nearing 8pm Friday evening, lady on desk barely looked up as I asked her for take away menu which the waitress then handed me, ordered only two items off the menu, paid, got food left only to get home to receiving wrong order of food (should have checked before I left) but come on two items both wrong, was too far to go back so ate out of hunger food was just mediocre sadly. Eat here again, Think not! Very disappointed customer."

"Our choice of Bar des Oiseaux was last minute but they kindly accommodated our party of six. An excellent menu, not overly complicated. A lively and busy interior with some outdoor space also. What exceeded was the quality of food and fantastic warm service. Portion...sizes are just right allowing for a starter, main and dessert. Our attempts to speak french were met with the staffs attempt to speak English so we got along famously! Suitable for vegetarians and meat eaters alike with a very reasonable wine list. Definitely a place to return as well as recommend in old town Nice. Merci beaucoup and see you next time!"

"One of the best lunches of all time! what a jewel! we felt so welcome and eating was incredible. coquilles st jacque still attached to the dish – I cannot describe how fresh and tasty these were. Johannes Dory fish with fennel was so tender and the sauce was light and tasty. the lemon soufflé must be in my top ten desserts ever. this restaurant was better than some more expensive places we ate in lyon – don't miss it!"
