"It's hard to find Indian vegetarian restaurants in Melbourne Victoria but Saravanaa Bhavan (in King St, city) is not only quality vegetarian but has the added benefit of exposing Melburnians to wonderful south Indian cuisine. Generally, it's very good, authentic food on offer here. The fact that Indians comprise over 80% of the customers attests to this. An extra bonus is that many South Indian selections are vegan. Indian knowledge of vegetarian' is second to none but the term vegan' remains largely foreign or poorly understood. I once asked what they had that was vegan, and the man replied: Sorry, we don't serve non-veg here If you're after vegan food, determining whether the dish you're keen on includes ghee (clarified butter) or curd (yoghurt) is crucial. "Great Indian Curry joint hard to find. I never knew it was here. The dishes are good with what is vegan. Probably 1/3 of the menu is vegan or can be made vegan. Happy Hour from 6 am to 7 pm on Sunday with cheap curry’s. This place is great. I'm sure I'm back!!!"
