"If I had the option I would put 3.5 here. Michelin stars are double edged swords they are an honour but they also inflate the customer’s standards. I think my rating/opinion would change without this pretext and with a different price point. For food, I had the tasting menu. The amuse bouche was a strong start. The oysters were beautifully presented and fresh. The yuzu didn’t outshine the oyster, which had a deep creamy sweetness to it. The confit potato with caviar was a nice touch and the cucumber salad was fresh and umami packed. The brioche also was pretty good. I thought it was a playful fusion between the Japanese tamago sando and a Nordic sandwich. Tip of the hat for the double “egg sandwich” concept with the egg jam Center with the trout roe on top. The brioche wasn’t particularly impressive grainy and a bit dry. I felt like it took away from the dish actually. My least favourite was the squash/eggplant dish. I’m not really sure what that was trying to accomplish but no real flavours or textures stood out. Just seemed like a few Asian veg items thrown together without much unity. And the textures were just soft. The pasta dishes I enjoyed the most from the meal. No real complaints the agnolotti and cavatelli were both flavour packed and unique the first being earthy and powerful, the second being playful and umami. Others have stated before the “XLB” title ends up being a misnomer without the soup in the agnolotti. Lobster 3 ways cool concept but execution could have been better. The white butter tail was overwhelmingly buttery. The fried claw had good meat but the batter was quite heavy. And the steamed rice did not pack much flavour or essence of lobster. I quite enjoyed the dessert the ube mousse with the raspberry sorbet was awesome. Service was efficient for sure. But very curt. I would expect for a tasting menu that the waitstaff spend more time and passion explaining dishes. We got more of a rapid fire mumble of what the dish was and had to reconsult the menu to figure out what we were getting. Maybe it was an off night. But I don’t think the price I paid was nearly worth the experience I had."

Romantic Bistro decor, warm lighting, intimate spaces…boisterous, excruciatingly loud acoustics to the point that you have to scream a conversation at your dinner guest, instead of simply talking. Screaming patrons plus loud music try to drown each other out. A balance of both would make this place great overall."
