"I also posted this review on Dan 's fb page, it was deleted and I was blocked! Myself 2 friends visited on the 6th of October. We ordered 1 x seafood platter and 1 x ploughman 's. The cost of the platter rose from the advertised price of £75 to £90 as that corresponding size lobster was sold out. Why not just alter the chalk board menu? The advertised price should have been honoured. Tips are requested at the time of ordering, we thought this was quite bizarre so declined. We sat down with our drinks mine was a plastic cup of ice with a dash of coke) and waited expectantly for our lunch. 45 minutes later there is no sign of our meals and to add insult to injury we could see several people who had ordered after us munching away on theirs. We inquired and were told we are very busy and there 's only 2 of us . My question as to why later orders had been fulfilled was ignored. 15 minutes later still nothing and the kitchen was closed for cleaning. It had now been an hour and we 'd had enough so requested a refund. Refund was given minus the cost of the drinks £6 odd). I thought this was unfair as we 'd been a 'captive audience ' for the last hour. The 2 staff were hostile, unhelpful and had no interest in trying to rectify the situation. They denied the order had been missed, but what other explanation could there be? We left very stressed and hungry. What a waste of a precious hour on a lovely hot day. Dan was emailed 12 days ago regarding this fiasco but has chosen not to respond, hence the review."

"Visited the cafe twice on a recent holiday, once on a beach day and the other at one of their pizza and music nights. Both were great experiences with friendly and helpful staff, great food, atmosphere and a shop full of many tempting things to buy! A great place to visit and up there with one of my favourites in Cornwall."

"Really good pub on helford river. the took ferry from the ferryboat inn and a part of the coastal hike, then had a beer and chips. friendly service, great outdoor area and build a riverside bar and pizza area by looking at it. can not wait to get back to a proper meal in the summer."

"We were in Helston to visit the nearby museum and just wanted somewhere for lunch and we found this place and glad we did. The service was very friendly and food came out quickly, especially our young kids sandwiches, which came first. Its always hugely appreciated when places bring the kids food out first and as quickly as possible. We all had sandwiches and the bread was lovely and soft. I had bacon and sausage and very much enjoyed it. My wife and I also went for the cream tea and that was excellent. You could tell the scones are freshly made, they were so soft and moist. Would highly recommend anyone to visit, we will certainly return if we are ever in Helston again."

"*Tea by the sea* Porthmellin Cafe is exactly the sort of local experience most individual travellers might look for. Situated in a small community, you'll even find some locals at the tables! The setting couldn't be cozier with checked tablecloth, sea themed pilows and the fisherboats in the harbour just outside the window. The staff is very friendly and the menu offers small meals and cake. We had an excellent chocolate cake and a fantastic crab sandwich with our tea. Don't be put off by the unstylish look of the front inside awaits a lovely experience."

"One evening after the test, visited twice before to find it only at 8 o'clock. I bought the cod and chips and two separate cod. the cod was quite good and directly boiled, in a light teig that was not too fat. there were enough chips in the two portions to walk four of us easily. kabeljau and chips twice plus two additional cable costs £20 and was good value for money. I wish the place would open a little later."
