"Sai Family A/C restaurant bar is situated on the Arpora Anjuna road. After you pass the old and popular landmark restaurant called Starlight, on your right, you reach the turn off to Little Baga and Mackie 's Saturday Night Market on your left. Just at this point you will find 2 restaurants on your left. I forget the name of the first one, which is a good thing as I 'll explain why later, but the one next to it is Sai Family Restaurant the subject of this review. Our friends from Deli, Jyoti and Kishore Bhargava introduced us to this restaurant one afternoon when they brought us here for a lunch. At lunch, there were just the 4 of us, our 2 friends, my nephew and myself. I remember our friends called for fish thalis, my nephew had a Stuffed Chicken with Blue cheese, while I had a veg thali. The fish thalis appeared to be good with a good helping of rice, a fish curry, a Sol curry, small helping of salad pickle, a vegetable, a piece of fried fish and a fry papad. The veg thali was the same with the non veg replaced by a daal and an additional vegetable. There were no chapatis or rotis, which was a downer for me. I must add here, that though the veg thali is not bad, there are quite a few other restaurants offering better veg thalis. The stuffed chicken with blue cheese also looked nice and my nephew said it was very good even though we were cautioned that the restaurant had run out of blue cheese and that they would be using regular cheese. As my sister had missed out on this lunch, the three of us decided to go there for dinner one evening. This experience literally was a difference of day night pun intended. The Stuffed Chicken with or without the blue cheese was not on the available as the chef was out of town. My sister and nephew settled on sharing a plate of egg noodles and a plate of Prawns in Garlic sauce between the two of them, while i ordered a Mushroom Mutter Masala and tandoori rotis. I tasted the egg noodles and wasn 't as impressed with it as my sister and nephew were. I must admit that the prawns looked very inviting and appetizing. They were large and not coated with any batter, also, they were of a generous helping. My sister and nephew were quite pleased with their choice. My Mushroom Mutter Masala was well cooked, not oily and a large enough helping for me to share some of it for taste. Te rotis arrived hot and well cooked. The ambience: Although we sat in the rather open air and spacious part of the restaurant, I am sure that there must be an A/C section somewhere. The adequate number of fans were enough to keep the place cool enough. The place was mostly crowded with Indian tourists who looked typically tired at the end of a long day of sight seeing. There were a few local Goan families as well and at one one table were about five local youngsters high on their beers; very loud and very excited with some cricket match showing on the telly. Just why do restaurants opt for large screen TVs nowadays, is beyond me. The biggest nightmare was the music that was being blasted by the restaurant right next door. They had this horrendously out of tune and out of synch with reality live band playing Bollywood songs. Our Bill: Egg noodles Rs150/ Mushroom Mutter Masala Rs170/ Prawns in Garlic Sauce (or Souce as printed on the bill) Rs.230/ 2 Rotis Rs.40/ 3 Fresh Lime sodas Rs.90/ Total... Rs.680/ for 3 persons. No taxes added to the bill. Bottom line: Good ambience, comfortable, prompt and courteous service, reasonably good food. Cons: Highly avoidable at night if listening to bad loud live music is not your scene."
