"Location! Location! Location! Café Viva is in a great location on Columbus, and with so many windows it’s perfect for people watching. But with so many restaurants to choose from in North Beach I don’t think Café Viva is doing a good job. I went there with 1 guest for lunch. Not many patrons were having lunch here but I didn’t think anything of it. Hanging dried flowers filled the ceiling and the decor gave you the feeling of a nice Italian restaurant. The tables are lined with plain brown paper which is nice and simple. Once I got the menu I could tell this restaurant is catering to families. It’s very colorful with pictures and different color backgrounds on a single page. Once my eyes settled down I selected the Primavera vegetables, mushrooms, fresh basil, peas, tomatoes, olive oil, and herbs. (10.95) We selected a glass of the House Chianti. When the food arrived you have the tradition of having the wait staff put on the parmesan cheese. When she pulled out the Zyliss grater it was amazing how much cheese came out of that thing. But I question weather that contraption is something that belonged in a restaurant. I did have a hard time calling the waitress at the end of our meal which shouldn’t have been a problem with only two other tables occupied."

"Went for the first time during restaurant week, attracted by the menu. I really enjoyed the house salad and my husband tried the butternut squash soup. His steak was cooked to his liking but my Mahi was undercooked. The waiter was very apologetic and took it back to the kitchen to be replaced. While I was waiting I was given another glass of the wine I was drinking. The new entree was cooked to perfection. We both had bread pudding for dessert, divine, worth going just for that. Excellent service. Decor is modern and some might think it a bit cold. Worth giving the restaurant a second visit."

"Impressed with the quality, flavor, and speed our lunch was prepared. Pricing is on par with quality and it always feels good to support local farms and bakeries. We will definitely be back. All organic ingredients as well. Had the best salad, french fries, and the mushroom and Swiss burger. Recommend all of them."

"This place is really amazing for breakfast and lunch. I never had a bad meal and I've been here for many dozens of times. Owners friendly and staff always offer exceptional service. It's not a chic restaurant at all, but that makes it an extraordinary kind of diner to eat. It has a good atmosphere constantly. I usually get one of the breakfast specialties that come with hash brews and endless coffee, all around 10-12 dollars. I also enjoy their patty melt or Club Sando for lunch. Menu is quite large, so you should check it absolutely"

"Taco Tuesday! amazing frozen margaritas and good size, tasty tacos! I wish they had chips and salsa/guacamole. brotpudding was served cold - expected it to be warm with ice. even that was fantastic! great service."
