"Don 't be mistaken, this is a dingy restaurant in a really dodgy-looking street in not a very nice neighbourhood (the old district, near the cathedral, which is not that well considered for many of us that have grown up in nicer parts of BCN but it 's still one of the busiest areas visited by tourists alike . Don 't be put off by this! This is an absolute little gem of a place because it makes the best Canelones (pronounced /ka-neh-lo-nehs/ in the world! If you don 't know what these are, then they 're rolls of lasagna pasta sheets filled with a paste (for lack of a better world made of meat veg bits covered with Bechamel sauce, covered with cheese put under the grill to give that gratin taste. This place has been there for over 50 years and the only reason why it 's still alive and kicking is because of its clientelle of faithful Barcelonians that come from all over the city to pick up some take away, mainly Canelones /or roast chicken for Sunday lunchtime. I have tried many Canelones in my time (not so much now that I live in the UK and none have gotten even close in juiciness deliciousness! It is dead cheap for a tray of six canelones (usually people eat 4 per head or three if followed by a second course of roast chicken with potatoes but now that I 'm used to single course meals, I 'd recommend 4-5 per head with a nice side salad . I don 't know how much they cost because my dad was the one in charge for travelling to the Piolindo to pick them up, but I know they 're not much. If you 're a tourist without cooking facilities, then you can eat them there as they have a few tables and chairs, but if you can, then get the tray without the 'gratin ' bit done. Then when you 're ready to eat, put them under the grill until they 're nice and golden at the top. Nice! As for the chicken, it 's really nice too, but it 's not the best I 've had. Unfortunately, the best one I know was made locally by someone that closed shop many many years ago and I can 't recommend another one enough."
