"It was a cold winter night with nary an open restaurant on Befana Eve in the snow-covered Matera 6. Cruschi are sun-dried Italian peppers with seeds removed, cut or comminuted in tiny pieces, then roasted in olive oil to crispy. The olive oil and paprika are then added to the boiled cavatelli, with roasted bread crumbs. It was quite different than any pasta dish I had and tasty enough, but there are many more sauces I prefer. The tavern was old with large arched stone ceiling, a bit simple, yet inviting. The tables and chairs were old and wood with candles burn on all except ours. The service was efficient, but as cold as the air outside, hardly talking to us until we left and I told them I was a food critic. They all smiled and treated us like old friends... too late.
