"I like this restaurant, but they are inconsistent and can be hit or miss. This can sometimes ruin the entire meal. Getting home with take out and discovering things were left out, as they’ve done to us more than once, can be an infuriating experience, for example. It seems that Peter Chang restaurants start out great and then decline after he presumably moves on to care for his other locations. His recipes are great, but the kitchen and service can hurt your experience. The “Chinese hot pot” flavor with the whole numbing pepper seeds is great and unique, but I wish the same flavor wasn’t used in nearly half the dishes. You could order a 3 course meal and have them all taste the same. The menu could keep this from happening but the descriptions are sometimes vague, I hate that. I love the soups, the hot pots, anything with fish, and the dry fried eggplant. Most anything on the menu could be good, but not 100% reliably. Be careful not to bite any of the whole Szechuan numbing peppercorns. They’re actually not pepper but the seed of an evergreen. Biting on one changes the way your tongue tastes for 20 minutes or more. Even water will taste bad and metallic after that. It will probably end your meal."
