"It is two years since we last visited Selesa, the Malaysian restaurant at the Park City Hotel in Kensington. This really is a hidden gem down in the hotel's basement. It is divided into small rooms, with a separate bar and a Garden Lounge for drinks and snacks. As well as an a la carte menu there's a Hot Pot buffet (all you can eat for £30) and a Tasting Menu at £25. The main menu offers soups and starters including satay, crab, squid, chicken wings, vegetarian spring rolls, prawn toasts and crispy duck. Main courses cover chicken, beef, lamb, fish, seafood, vegetarian dishes, tofu, noodles and rice. There's also a western menu for diners not used to chilli hot dishes. After some good and crispy prawn crackers we enjoyed a starter of Gado-Gado, the salad of vegetables, tofu, boiled egg and peanut sauce, which made a terrific combination. We also savoured the Salt pepper squid in batter with garlic and five spice. The main course Fried beef with black pepper was a spicy treat, while the Sambal prawns in shrimp paste and chilli sauce took our breath away. Fragrant jasmine rice and the Stir-fried noodles with onions and soy sauce made very good accompaniments to the main dishes. For dessert the Banana fritters with ice cream and the special dessert of Kuih Dadar, a rolled up green crepe filled with coconut and pandam juice, made a refreshing palate cleanser to our chilli hot lips. Let's hope it is not another two years before we next pay a visit to this charming basement boite."
