"We were staying at the Bornheimer Hof hotel on the Bergerstrasse for a few nights in August, and decided on our last night there to try the new restaurant located below the hotel, the Ristorante La Duchessa. Are we glad we did! Having only opened several months ago, this restaurant offered a wonderful dining experience. There were four of us having dinner that evening two of us were English speaking Americans, and our local Frankfurt friends who were bilingual German English. As we perused their great menu, our friends helped translate some of the menu items ' descriptions to us, and they all sounded pretty fabulous. The Bergerstrasse is a largely pedestrian street that is populated with numerous shoppes and restaurants. Parking can be a challenge, to say the least, so you will likely be parking a little distance away and walking here. The setting is very tasteful and is upscale Italian, without being the least bit pretentious. The proprietor came to our table and was very gracious and helpful in recommending some meal choices. My partner is pescetarian (vegetarian and fish diet only , and we found some nice options. After a wonderful salad that was loaded with fresh shrimp, we moved on to four different pasta dishes all of which were fabulous! My partner had a very nice seafood pasta, I had a wonderful pasta with spicy sausages (I forget the name of it but it was just spicy enough to get your attention, without being too spicy . Our friends had two other pastas that they were raving about (one of which was actually a trio of beautiful pastas that was nicely presented and reportedly exquisite . The portions were nice. The service was excellent. Our water glasses never ran dry, and the staff was very attentive and personable. We started with German beers, then ordered a house red wine with our meals, and it was very good. After we were finished with our meal, we were too full for dessert. My good friend ordered the boys a round of grappa (my first experience with that! . The ladies were treated to a complimentary limoncello, which was a nice touch. I 've got to say, if you are staying in or visiting the Bergerstrasse district of Frankfurt, you MUST try this wonderful new restaurant. Use the Bornheimer Hof hotel as your landmark this place is on the bottom floor, and is kind of tucked behind the outdoor eating tables that are streetside You will have a wonderful meal, will be treated like royalty, and you will want to tell your friends.
