"Mones is located on a narrow cobblestone street in Chania. It is off the beaten path, and it is connected to a hotel that is a renovated monastery. The space is stunning. I was so happy to see that they had a vegan menu. I asked about the pesto (cheese and the server went to the kitchen to find out and returned advising that yes, the pesto did have cheese. They made a pasta for me with a vegan marinara sauce. Even though there was a mistake on the vegan menu, I applaud them for making the effort to create a vegan menu. If it's a learning experience for them, I'm glad to help. When traveling to places where veganism is still not common, I put the burden on myself to ask questions does the pesto have cheese? does the pasta have eggs? is there yogurt in the sauce? is there mayonnaise in the dressing? Etc."
