"As seems to be the case with a lot of Ask properties, the setting is a major selling point. Located in the heart of York and only a few minutes walk from the York Minster, this branch is no different in that respect.The building itself, once a Victorian meeting hall, is immense and takes your breath away. Lareg pillars and tall plants surround the walls, and you really do feel like you're in a special place.The food doesnt quite live up to that but then, it couldnt really. Thats not to say its bad food it isnt. Its basic pizza, pasta and salad dishes which are tasty but unremarkable. For a city centre restaurant its reasonably priced, with the exception of the desserts which are very expensive for what you get.If you can visit in the daytime, you'll get to appreciate your surroundings. Visit at a weekend evening, and chances are it'll be heaving. This doesnt take away from the experience, but it means your service will suffer accordingly.Its a dining experience unlike any other in the north of England and well worth a visit. Just dont expect earth shattering food"

"If they are ever in york and want to eat a good Italian, make sure they are here! the ambiente was beautiful, the staff was fast and friendly. the food took a little longer - what you expected when everything is fresh and authentic Italian made what it was. but that was it! the desserts were amazing. all around the great place to eat."

"If you are harking for a bit of history in our historical city, then join the queues for Betty's; you'll be able to sample all that was bad about British Tea Rooms from around the early rude staff, tired decor and over rated over priced food. On the other hand, if you're after a good cup of coffee with pleasant service without the standing around to get in then go to one of the many good quality cafés that have opened since this relic. To say Betty's is trading on the past would be an understatment.We went along recently when friends visited and wanted to do the tourist thing. The waitress could have passed for one from the old communist eastern block she was that rude. The scones were as dry as straw and the order didn't arrive all at the same time. To cap it all, my wife scalded her fingers when handed her plate which was (unexpectedly for a plate containing a scone) red hot. Did Comrade Waitress apologise, don't be daft.In summary, in case you hadn't guessed, do yourself a favour and visit somewhere else"

"From start to finish, the service was relaxed and efficient with friendly waitresses. The food and the coffee was excellent and it was only a short wait for it to be delivered, I would definitely recommend! If they have a got pork belly sandwich with chilli tomato chutney on the specials again, it’s a must!!"

"The Inn oozes stereotypical Yorkshire charm, rich with every element you would wish for in a pub. Just reading the menu gives you the comfort that whatever you choose the food is going to be fantastic, maybe because the menu reads like a best selling novel, maybe I just have a feel for these things. Quality is what makes or breaks an establishment, just looking at the rings that cuddle my pint glass as I sup the well recommended pint of ale, tells me that this place has high standards. Clearly a pub that takes it’s primary function so serious is going to be best suited to serve me a culinary delight too."

"Lovely relaxed restaurant with great good and service. Had four courses and everything was sized just right to enjoy it without being overly full. Certainly not the cheapest restaurant but the quality was fantastic, and value off the scale. I will absolutely be back."

"Very nice restaurant at the river. served Italian food, which is offered with good friendly service. to give them an idea of the preisen that is shown tonno siciliana in the photos, is price of 19.75 pfund, the risotto was 12.25 pfund, and the torta caprese was 6.75 pfund. there is also a separate menu with gluten-free options (they need to request this specifically.)"
