"I haven 't been writing reviews of late, but when someone in my neighbouring suburb makes a fantastic effort to fulfill the need for a well presented Indian restaurant that doesn 't water down flavours, then it deserves a few minutes of my time. Tana Tan caught our eye when we were driving past one day. It 's across the road from the old Dairy Bell ice cream factory which is now an apartment block. Yesterday when my Indian friends from Point Cook were visiting I booked Tana Tan for dinner through Zomato around 4pm. Owner Chetan called me within minutes of my confirmed booking to reconfirm, which I appreciate I had booked a table for 11 after all.<br <br Upon meeting him, I came to know that he 's been in hospitality for 12 years and that this is his first dine in restaurant venture. Unlike the west of Melbourne, Indian restaurants in the South East cater to a mainly non Indian audience and most have turned off the authenticity to please the Western palette. Not so at Tana Tan...a Hindi slang word that means 'fantastic '!<br <br In the starters the Chicken Malai Tikka at 11.95 is a very sizeable sizzler, and our table lapped up two of those. We also had two each of the Dahi Puri and Pani Puri, both pretty good would be nicer if some of the gol gappas had been pierced with a little more care. A Chicken 65 wrapped up the starters. In the mains, I as the vegetarian enjoyed the rich flavours of the Paneer Pasanda special and Palak Paneer, and Dal Makhni (we had 3! passed my litmus test very, very well the latter two were a tad high on the salt, which Chetan 's said he will note. Butter Chicken (yes, it 's sweet here, in the western tradition! and Chicken Tikka Butter Masala finished our mains order, and all the breads were fantastic brought in hot and fresh as they came out of the tandoor.<br <br I felt that a restaurant this good needs a little more generous patronage from the locals, especially as we were the only party dining on a Saturday in a place that 's been around for 3 months now...perhaps that 's because we started late, at 9pm. We could have done with a little more attention at our table just to be made to feel that we are being well cared for...things like serving water more frequently and coming around during the meal, y 'know. On the whole, the place was clean but not sparkling, and the hand soap had run out in the toilets...things that can easily be fixed.<br <br You got my point...Tana Tan does almost everything right and the food is excellent they are over 4.5 5. Our bill was $226 for 8 starters, 7 mains, 7 breads and 3 soft drinks, so that 's value for your dollar at a stone 's throw from Chadstone Shopping Centre"
