"Extremely helpful staff! Nice location in that it's one stop shopping for dinner ingredients in the Quay and wine. One point, I wish they carried more than just BC wines. BC does produce some nice wines but I am not what you call a fan. I should add they do have nice wines there."

"Stopped in at the jackalope and it was full already at 7:15! They make a great mojito and my date had the strathcona pils."

"Fresh ingredients. Great thin AND STIFF crust. Great sauce. Great combination of ingredients. Great service, ambiance and decor. I'd list the pizzas we had but what's the point? They're all really good."

"After we were unable to get reservations for a reasonable time at the good Italians restaurants, The Italians on Bute and Davie was recommended to us by someone at Marquis wines. The food was great: real and authentic home-made Italian classics. We started with shrimps in garlic for my spouse and I had the meatballs in tomato sauce. According to my friends, I make absolutely superb shrimps in garlic, and these were unquestionably just as good as mine, maybe even better as my spouse would not tell me if they were (LOL). The meatballs were quite different from what I was expecting: very cheesy but great, in a nice tomato sauce. We asked for bread to mop up the sauces as they were that good. For the main course, I had spaghetti amatriciana and Marilyn had fettucine Alfredo. The amatriciana should have come with bucatini, of which they were out and, in any case, I dislike them as they are too thick to roll easily on the fork and the hole in the middle makes them hard to suck. Anyway, spaghetti are what were used in the original recipe from Amatrice according to a number of respectable Italian web sites like Giallo Zafferano. Lovely amatriciana with guanciale, pecorino, tomatoes and a hint of hot pepper. Sort of the origin of real carbonara with tomatoes instead of egg, unlike the goopy stuff that passes for carbonara in many restaurants in North America. The fettuccine Alfredo were also perfect, with the simple parmigiano and butter sauce Alfredo di Lelio started serving in Rome around 1900 and that our mothers have been making since forever, rather than the greasy roux-based crud that is served in other restaurants. We also had a nice bottle of Pecorino white from the Abruzzi, a much better wine than the ubiquitous acidic and thin pinot grigio. The only negative thing was that the restaurant is quite small and crowded with few tables. I can't complain, though, as we were lucky to be seated at a table even though we showed up without reservations. Next time we will sit in the covered terrace outside, weather permitting."
