"This by far has been our favorite restaurant in Basel, Switzerland. The beer cheese fondue was better than I could have ever imagined and the pretzels that go with it is soft in the middle and perfectly cooked. We have been to fancier fondue restaurants around the area and we didn 't really have that great of an experience with the customer service and the cheese was ok. The service was also the best here because they were friendly and patient with us English speakers and you can tell that they genuinely wanted us to enjoy ourselves."

"Strong aroma of cheese wafted in the air the moment we were led into a semi booth spacious enough for three. Quite a few tables around us were having the cheese fondue but we are not huge cheese fondue fans so we opted for other regular dishes. The place is like a very traditional decorated Swiss chalet with dark wooden panels and pillars, exuding s warm, cosy home feeling. The menu is actually more than Swiss and offered more continental dishes like lobster bisque, Caesar salad, beef carpaccio, French fries, vegetable macaroni etc. Nobody would be at a loss because the menu is in five languages including English, French, German, Spanish and simplified Chinese. The waiters all speak good English and they serve well, all smiling, efficient and professional. We started with beef carpaccio with slices of cheese and one black olive on top. The good looking robust waiter came over and mixed a what he joked as ' beef carpaccio sauce' ( cos he said he doesn't know what it is called when we asked )---a mixture of egg yolk+mustard+olive oil+salt+pepper and it was very tasty indeed, be it with the beef or as a spread for the nice bread that originally came with butter. The beef was tender pink and fresh. The shrimp salad looked tempting with five plump succulent pan fried shrimps amongst a bed of fresh leaves. The sauce was really toothsome and not overpowering so u could still taste the uber freshness of the main ingredients. The Parma ham with melon was standard fare of three wedges of melon and a large mound of some thin shaves of ham. Fresh dish but we had had sweeter melons elsewhere. The first main course was Tournedo Rossini i.e. beef steak with foie gras and we chose noodles to go with it. Foie gras was heavenly that melted at the tip of the tongue and beef was juicy, tender and flavoursome. Noodles were super generous for someone with a huge stomach. Another main course was lamb racks that we had chosen rice on the side. The racks each had a dollop of cheese sauce on top before they grilled them and the meat was nice but could be pinker but they never asked us how we would like them cooked. The rice came in a big mound and again, one has to be super ravenous to be able to finish it. The last main course was what they had on their special 'Summer Menu' ----pan fried pork chop which I was careful to ask prior if it was a good choice, and the waiter replied ' oh yes, it is very good---very tender '. But it was a big slap of tough meat and so bland. The best part of the dish was the plentiful side salad that consisted of shredded carrots / shredded beets / shredded white turnips, assorted leaves and diced potato salad. This was a big let down indeed cos if the robust waiter had not highly recommended it, I would not have ordered but opted for some perch or sole or salmon instead. All main courses have an option of either rice or flat egg noodles or creamy potatoes to go along. They should have given us steak knives when we all chose meat, not the regular knife for fish. It was hard to cut the meat esp the tough pork with salad knife. The resto was almost full but when we walked in at 8:30 pm there was still a few empty tables. It is a clean and inviting restaurant where the staff greet all customers warmly and most courteously. Not a cheap place but this is Switzerland. To give an idea, the three of us, just food, one beer one bottled water came to 235.40CHF"

"We stayed a few days ago, tabled by 10 people: various pizzas and 3 menus of the day, not bad as quality. One of the 3 menus of the day was no longer available. Friendly staff."
