"Travelling regionally in post-COVID19 re-opening of the tourism industry and have come across one big problem – “Where to eat?” The local bakery is always an option but not for dinner. Many cafes and restaurants including those in hotels have not had enough time to...get food stocks, supplies, staff etc to reopen. It is then that local pillars come into play. In Renmark for the night and on this night the only takeaway place, apart from the big chains including pizza outlets, was Renmark Fish and Chips. Close to the motel, we ventured out having already decided that basic fish and chips will fit the bill. The shop is small and had a limit on the number of people inside at any one time. Designated markings indicated the appropriate social distancing with separate sections of the counter for ordering and picking up. Service was pleasant and efficient with the all-important question being asked “Chicken or normal salt on the chips?” Chicken of course! Cost was average and what I was expecting. A full menu was mounted high on the wall above the ordering counter. The menu included burgers, hotdogs, chicken and beef schnitzel packs, BBQ chicken and packs, yiros and other smaller snack items. Orders by phone and walk-in were steady but the time to prepare the order of two butterfish and serve of chips seemed to be very quick. As dine-in was not available it was definitely take out. Simply packed in a cardboard tray and covered in a paper bag, it was back to the motel for the taste test. Out with the Pepsi Max for drinks and ready for the main meal. Motel room! No cutlery! Out with the hand sanitizer. Into eat the old way – fingers! The fish was beautifully cooked and flaky so that it held together inside a crisp batter that was not greasy! The chips were golden and crisp but would have benefited with more chicken salt – not quite enough for our taste. And to top the bill – pieces of lemon included. Overall a good option in a dire situation. Return? When next in Renmark, the Renmark Fish and Chips shop will be on our list."

"Venue 8/10Staff 4/10Food 1/10Great venue overlooking the river. Staff couldn't be bothered for niceties, no eye contact, no interaction. Worst beef snitzel I have ever had, tough as leather, dry and with a thick gluggy dark brown mushroom gravy all over it which we scraped off to the side of the plate. Overpriced and underwhelming. Doubt we will be back"
