"We had heard Zum Beichstuhl highly recommended as a great example of a typical Mainz Weinstübe so our expectations were quite high. maybe too high.The food was fine. Our asparagus soup was OK, but nothing more. my main course of pork was very tasty, nicely cooked so that the meat was nicely moist and the herby crust was good. There was a huge portion of Bratkartoffeln and I mean huge (I couldn't finish them). A tad greasy perhaps, but that's a matter of taste. My husband's steak took a long time to arrive. We'd pretty much all finished eating when it turned up! We might have expected something to be knocked off the bill or a free drink (the waiting staff admitted they'd forgotten the order) but all we got was a pretty perfunctory apology. The steak itself was pretty average. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. The wine list is good and I had a couple of nice glasses of Riesling. I'd go back there again for a drink, but probably not to eat."
