"Discovered by chance on our first visit to Wernigerode in 2008 (to visit the HSB railway, see separate review). Excellent local and authentic German restaurant, full of locals. Rather formal when first approached to make a booking (even though we have a German-speaker in our group). Clearly exists on regular clientele and does not need passing trade like us. Menu is all in German but clear enough. Separate pages for Pork, Game and Fish dishes though we thought not many beef main courses. Not a criticism. The wine list has most items priced very closed together and available by the glass as well (about 11-14 Euro per bottle in Feb 2013). Only curious practice to English diners is the regulars all seem to eat very early. We book each time for around 8pm and find we are eating our main course on our own by 9pm! And the outward-opening street door which actually doesn't, we get that wrong each time. Great care is taken with the cooking and with presentation. Terrific wild mushroom soup. Eccentric and charming decorations around the walls. Has a strong homely feel to it. Split level, there are stairs up to the toilets and the mini-bar area at the back."

"A cozy restaurant with a very nice view terrace. The interior is neatly decorated and the tables are beautifully covered. The menu has resin-typical dishes, but also the usual suspects such as Cordon Bleu and Rumpsteak. It is manageable, but surely has something for every taste. Once we had the Cordon-Bleu with potatoes orchards and Salat deco, once pig slices with hops and salad deco and from the separate children's card (which is by the way very nice for the children to paint and fried) the pirate plate (fish sticks with potato balls and vegetables). The food was delicious and freshly prepared. The service was also fleeting and friendly. The prices are moderately a shame is only that if you want to order a little more than just salad decoration, you need to order a salad extra."

"General We accidentally discovered this restaurant we wanted to visit another place, but we went smoothly. There we saw this attractive house, and were very fond of the displayed menu. And that was about two years ago; we've been at least 50 times to eat in the restaurant since then. Always friendly and intrusive; every wish is fulfilled The food We visit this restaurant from Braunschweig as much as possible at least 2 3 times a month. Every time the food is excellent we have almost eaten the menu, and were never disappointed. The atmosphere small but really fine; the host is extremely creative and has resin characters (self-made! everywhere."

"This is a really good restaurant. The town is cute and fun to walk around. The restaurant is a great place to sit and relax and enjoy a good meal. The staff is friendly, and I can't say enough good things about the food. A definite 'not to miss' place!"
