"First and last visit to this cafe, we expected better from the Thorntons name. The first thing I noticed was the smell at the counter, it smelled like a dirty mop, it had obviously been wiped with a dirty cloth, I put this down to an oversight as the cafe was busy but unfortunately things did not improve. Our coffee and hot chocolate were lukewarm and very sickly sweet before sugar had been added, the cakes were dry. The toilets did not look as though they had been cleaned that day and had no paper.The walls in the cafe had dirty marks on them, the tables were tatty and needed wiped and the door to the staff area had greasy and dirty marks all over it. the whole place felt as though it needed a good clean. The staff seemed uncaring. We walked out. What a dreadful advert for a beautiful tourist spot."

"I really believe that this is the best afternoon in london is so traditional and so perfect beautiful. <br/> one of the oldest family-run hotels in london and with a tradition of a royal succession (it was a favorit of the queen mother, but probably most unforgettable in the modern time for the gastender of the herzogin of cambridge in the night before her royal high time), it offers an absolutely exquisite afternoon tea.br/> the british tea guild council award of every when we visited a crunchy autumn day, the children played on the razing, while people of all age groups and backgrounds took the afternoon. they would not have known that the place was busy as the incredible staff managed to keep the atmosphere on something very personal and relaxing. this special was made from lobster, crab, hugging and ei, essentially transformed into a mousse. the aromen were breathtaking and quite unexpected – we could recognize each one. then followed our tee, our own goring. we chose the silver needle and the premier darjeeling, both tender and slightly cut for the whole afternoon.<br/> then they are presented with a cake stand that contains a selection of fingersandwichen, skorn, cake and desserts, all served on their own china of goring: light yellow, the teller were excellent with a silhouette of the greenders. four fillings were included – smoked salmon, guinea fowl and mushrooms, garnel and cancer, along with a mayonnaise. the scones, two simple and two fruits were served with devonshire drunk cream and a selection of tiptree essex jams; the sponser are warm, very fresh and fluffy, just as they should be.<br/> the cakes and desserts were something else. we were with a chocolate cream chocolate eclair, lemon cake with strawberry mousse, roulade, the similar aromen as victoria sponge, a makkaron, tartlet of summer fruits and the wonderful Eton fair. again the cakes were error-free; both of us found that we wanted more eton mess that was full of surprises and beautiful aromen."
