"Been to the Black Horse many times under previous owners but this was a first visit under the new owners. On arrival at 2.00pm was just two tables left which is always a good sign and plumped for the large table near the bay window. What struck me was the number of staff on duty and the warm welcome we recieved. The waitress informed us that it was cash only today which was not a problem for me but for any others there is a cash point across the raod at Spa. Our four drinks were very reasonably priced including my Moretti which was a good start. There were three or four starters of which we plumped for the Potatoes skins. Foer mains there were four choices on the menu beef, chicken, pork and lamb shank which my daughter had. The Yorkshiers were huge and done to perfection accompanied by roast potatoes, mash, cauliflower, turnip swede and sprouts and plenty of it. The starters were very reasonably priced and the mains just over £8.00. For those brave enough to finish there meal there is a sweets cabinet with lots of choice which looked delightful. Sadly all four of us were to full. All in all a very friendly and enjoyable experience so please give it a try."

"The place is always empty and that's for a very good reason: it's overpriced. As an example, a main with a side plus a dessert cost me £25.50. And I didn't go for the most expensive options! The food is not bad, but the options are very limited. I had to eat there during a whole week and I got tired of it. I ordered pasta dishes in three different occasions and they pretty much had the same taste. I only tried one of the starters and it was very good. The three sides I tried were very bland. But the deserts were tasty. Moreover, there are almost no options for vegetarians which is quite surprising at this age and in this country. A positive thing are the waiters, which are very young people who really try their best to be friendly and offer a good service, even though they aren't exactly the most experienced. In short, do not go there unless someone else pays for the meal."

"Went there last weekend and witnessed some young lad being set upon by 3 other lads for no apparent reason,obviously he defended himself,decked one of his attackers and was then restrained by other people while the other two were still throwing punches at him,ive heard on the grapevine the single lad has been barred for life,don’t think the other 3 have tho,I’ll never go back in again !!!"

"We returned to The Grand last night after an extended lockdown for us, and from the minute we entered the lounge it was sheer bliss. The calm, sumptuous seating, overlooking the sea is just so wonderful for the soul. Fab service. Drank our aperitifs and just relaxed. We then decided to have a meal in the restaurant, again a beautiful room, a warm welcome from the staff, and another beautiful sea view. Food was delicious, every morsel, scallops beautifully cooked. Portion size perfect. Wine list very well chosen and the red we had was excellent. Such a blissful night."
