"I recently had take away fish and chips (butterfish and a half serve of chips $7.90) from The Fish Lab in Highton. I haven't had food from there in quite some time, but I remember from my last visit that it was very good, lovely crisp batter, succulent fish and crunchy chips. I'm assuming there's been a change of ownership since my last visit as the person who used to work there was missing, as was the quality of the food. The batter on the (rather dry) fish was flabby rather than crisp and the chips suffered from being left out of the oil for too long while waiting for the fish to cook. They couldn't use 'too busy' as an excuse as, although there were phone orders coming in, I only had to wait 5-10 minutes for my order. This place used to be considered one of Geelong's best fish and chip places when it was Gilligan's and initially the quality was there as well when it moved from the beach to the suburbs. Now it's very disappointing to say the least, with quality being sacrificed for profit I assume and certainly no love any more. Overall, a very disappointing experience which I won't be repeating anytime soon, if ever."

"I did a uber delivery and ordered the challah French Toast Stuffed with Ricotta cheese. The ricotta or layer of ricotta between the toast had a very bitter,soap like taste to it. The bitterness greatly overpowered the fruit and maple syrup. Could only take 3 bites due to the rotten taste. The crab bene was good though but bummed about not being able to eat what I paid for. Called them to let them know and they just said, thank you for letting us know"

"First off the menu was terrific and the food was fantastic. Delicious, authentic and interesting. The staff was very nice. I felt that the atmosphere was not great. Very hot inside and felt hectic with a lot of staff scrambling. I’m sure it comes from being extremely busy all the time. Overall it was terrific and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Definitely recommend!"
