"If you are looking for some real Italian food then you cannot go past "il gusto" at 256 Lygon Street Carlton.The food is great and fresh. I had a pasta dish which was superb. The secret of pasta is the sauce and the creamy carbonara with mushrooms and bacon was just great.My wife had the grilled sardines which is a speciality at the restaurant and the fish was cooked well with salad as a side dish. Both meals were huge so you need to take a big appetite. Sweets were passed over as we struggled to eat the main course.Service was a bit slow but the food is prepared from scratch from fresh ingredients so the wait was worth it."

"We had been to lygon st before to eat and the experience was top stuff, we had been in the are and thought lets do it it again at another restaurant, well we had been let down, staff disinterested, ordered drinks beer and scotch they...came out seperate by 5 min, wifes meal was great she enjoyed it, my meal was poor under cooked."
