"I have come to this restaurant every year for the last I attend a conference in Dusseldorf..... BUT I stay in Koln and commute an hour each way. One of the main reasons is this restaurant) This is a very, very impressive experience....Well-stocked bar, good wine list, great ambiance, and delicious foods...... many with a strong regional focus. The service is a bit hectic, but be patient and allow yourself time to savor. If you're alone, seating is family-style..... so striking up a conversation with the Koln locals is always fun. If you're a couple, tables are inimate and spread out for privacy. This is a keeper for me..... the food is extraordinary."

"My sister and I came in here one week ago on Thursday for lunch! I m aware about the pressure and the difficult that waiters and chefs and all the kitchen staff live during the shift. There are times, expectations and different requests and standards to satisfy. That's why I m always nice and polite with who is going to serve my meal. Is a plus that my sister is a chef too, working in Germany since 7 years now.We politely ordered a typical German sausage/wurst.. asking if was possible to swap the potatoes with some fries. Thanks to my sister and her fluent German we've been able to "deal" with our waiter Mr. Mrkaic who shout in our face and capturing the attention of all the people around, saying that he couldn't be bothered with this. This was the menù Apparently The kitchen was on the floor 254738.. he couldn't be able to get in there, do the stairs and ask for it. If we don't want something we leave it and we order something else separately. He had no time to waste. Now.. We ve just made a question. No mentioning how blessed we are in 2017 with all this technology.. we both agree that "No, sorry" was enough.The fact that Mrkaic could be my father , doesn't allow him to shout in my face being totally unrespectful in front of so many people.The fact that there wasn't any manager around caring about the situation, and that this restaurant has a really good position, really close to the Cologne Cathedral and for sure has no prob to be reached by a lot of tourist.. neither! We were about to leave suddenly. Not even waiting for the food. Time that I ve tried to catch someone and ask the bills, one of our plates came out. We're really different from Mr. Mrkaic. So because the food was already out the kitchen and we respect the work of other people, we had our lunch. Feeling uncomfortable and leaving the place as soon as possible. NEVER AGAIN ."

"YES! This is what food in Germany (or anywhere! should be. Simple, fresh and tasty. Although it was a busy Friday night, staff welcomed us with a good table and space for our nine month old with a Kinderstuhl high chair provided. This isn’t always the experience in any country but especially in Germany with no reservation it’s sometimes hard to find a space. We had a good table overlooking the terrace and street. We had steak, vegetables and potato they provided a small baked potato for our son. We had a desert each afterwards. The food was fresh and perfectly cooked (steaks correctly done, vegetables freshly cooked for a reasonable inner city price. The managers were very friendly and made sure everything was ok with our food and explained they had new seasonal dishes. The waiting staff were very busy, I guess the only improvement might be a quick check if we needed more drinks half way through the meal but in the other hand it is nice to be relaxed and have time to enjoy the food. No stars lost though as the overall experience and the staff are top! Would definitely recommend if you are visiting for Cologne. Nice trendy crowd, some people with dogs, some on their own, some bigger groups but a very friendly atmosphere. The German food revolution starts here!"

"My husband and I stopped here by chance for lunch today. We were the first people there for lunch, only two people came in after us - none of them tourists. We did the lunch special: one appetizer and entrée each, with either espresso or sorbet for dessert. I had the salad with strawberry vinaigrette with the truffle and mushroom ravioli, he had the tortilla and the steak with champagne cabbage and mashed potatoes. The salad was light and delicious, the ravioli was unbelievable with I think a bacon foam. The tortilla was warm and was basically a Spanish omelet, and the steak was a wonderful cut of meat with an incredible flavor palette with the demiglace, cabbage and mashed potatoes. Really excellent. I'm pregnant and I asked if I could have the bacon-wrapped dates off the dinner menu (a personal favorite) and the chef prepared them for me anyway! SO nice! I would definitely go back and 100% recommend."
