"I have been to The Red Lion many times before and have always being extremely satisfied with the food, service and ambiance. However yesterday we were left feeling very disappointed and underwhelmed. We chose The Red Lion to celebrate mine and a friend 's birthday. The main courses were very good and we have no complaints on that score. Our server Matthew was also exemplary. He was however taken off our table and was requested to work inside due to the storms and the amount of people who had moved into the bar. However the desserts which were brought out (Eton Mess) by another server were presented in small wine glasses. The server told us that due to 'breakage, theft and damage wine glasses were all they had to serve the puddings in and normally they would be served in a bigger bowl/glass '. When asked if this would be reflected on our bill the server said she would ask the Manager. When we asked to see the manager as this was not the only issue we had, he stayed in the bar and said he was too busy. This is not the service I expect from a professional and normally well run establishment. It was very disappointing and we shall not be recommending The Red Lion to friends and family. Matthew our original server was fantastic and this is no indictment on him. A disappointing experience for somewhere that is normally excellent."

"Sunday night we had a long day and thought we'd order a curry as a treat. Ordered direct with their web page. Received confirmation, all around 5.50pm. Asked for delivery for 7pm. 7pm comes and goes, 7.30pm comes and goes. Starving and hoping to eat and get our daughter in bed for a sensible time we then try to ring. No answer. Again and again ringing no answer. 8pm, totally fed up and hungry and having gad to feed our child something else, my partner decides to go pick it up himself. We thought it was in Grange Park just up the road, but it turns out it's the other side of Northampton. Anyway, he goes over only to find the place is shut! Despite receiving an order confirmation and the website saying it was open, and the door sign saying Sunday open. Clearly not getting our curry he returns home empty handed. I messaged them via Facebook, which was read at 9pm and not replied to. Still no reply Monday. I then messaged to check they would not take the money or if they did they would refund. Again read and no reply. Messaged again tonight as money has now been taken from my card. Typically since ordering and having problems I am now seeing no end of bad reviews and problems people have experienced and how they never reply. Tomorrow morning I now have to ring my credit card to try and get my money refunded. I also found out tonight they have a 1 star food hygiene rating given on 5/4/19. DO NOT USE!"

"Ordered a Chinese delivery when they opened at 16:30, contacted them at 18:30 as food not arrived, expecting some kind of apology, but no, instead questioned about the time, whether it was booked online, no we spoke to you, then they proceeded to say we had rung the wrong number, so why did they answer by saying hello Mings and telling us the order would be £32.60. Used this place loads of times before and expected a little bit of customer service, however they couldn’t have cared less..."

"We received a really warm welcome and were taken to a table so we could look out onto the canal. Ordering was easy and dinner was served in a very reasonable time. The food was really lovely, hot and tasty. We noticed that the whole place has been given a makeover and it looks so much nicer now. Will definitely be back."
