"My wife and I were tourists in Portugal. We came up from Lisbon to Porto and wanted to visit the original capital city, Guimarães. We decided to stop for something to eat and ended up, by chance, at Café Oscar. They were so sweet and needlessly apologetic for not being comfortable speaking English (their English was wonderful) and the food was fantastic though we didn't get to eat it all. It wasn't long before others started sitting outside where we were and conversations started. We made wonderful friendships at Oscar where we were allowed to take up space. Our time in this restaurant was the bright spot in our entire trip to Porto. We'll never forget it. We didn't even get to see the city. It was a 1 hour train ride, we walked a little, ate, made friends and went back to Porto and the day, our hearts and our stomaches were full. Thank you Café Oscar. We'll be back."

"I was taken to this restaurant by our local friends, as they know that I like to try the local cuisine, and it was really different, we ate like tapas and it seemed that the variety never finished and one dish was better than the other and no food tasted bad or strange, I just kept on eating. We finished the meal with a local dessert, sponge cake with meringue and it felt very light, but when I had the second helping, I just could't finish it. I was told this is the place to go when in Guimareas."
