"We went there today, all the way from Central Station to enjoy these Padang-style (West Sumatra) dishes in Lakemba. Though I can't call it spicy at all, they cooked it well. The nearly-not-spicy food is friendly to our younger kids, but I do hope they...increase the level of spiciness in the dishes. To my opinion, Warung Ita offers better version of Padang food than the one in Pondok Buyung, Kensington. authentic."

"Besides a few restaurants in Rockdale, and the hipster rendition called Bang Street Food in Surry Hills, I haven't seen a whole lot of Bangladeshi restaurants in Sydney. So I found it pretty exciting to be dining at Bottola Restaurant, situated at the end of Haldon Street, Lakemba's main drag. With simple furnishings, and television screens giving diners a visual taste of Bangladesh, this restaurant purports to offer the kind of home-cooked meals that will appeal to Bengali people. Back in the 2011 census, Bengali people were the suburb's largest population group (13.4%) of the 32.4% of residents born outside of Australia. We're here to try Haleem ($8), which is basically a thick, spicy lentil soup. It's made from wheat, rice, meat (lamb usually) and lentils, and spiced with fresh ginger, cardamom, chilli, cumin, garlic, and turmeric to give it its distinctive yellowish hue. The thick soup is freshened up with coriander leaves, crisp fried onions and lime wedges, with green chilli slices passes separately for those who like extra heat. We eat it scooped onto crisp wedges of layered Paratha ($3) bread and it feels both fresh and filling; so I can see why it's particularly popular during Ramadan. We end our meal with small pots of Firni ($2.50), a Bengali rice pudding that's dotted with dried fruit and nuts. This small introduction to authentic Bengali cuisine has piqued my interest... next time I'll tackle Lamb Brains Marsala ($12)."

"Marvelling, how cheap they are, we eat Lebanese pizza with za’atar $1.50,) cheese $3.50) and meat $3.50) the latter is a mix of barkminze, capsicum and chili, which has been marinated for two days before being cooked on a light, thin...pizza basic at about 220-230 grad celcius. we are in these offers fresh from the often in pizza boxes as we stand on the street. the rich goat cheese proves my favorite, and it's a new use of haloumi that I'm determined to try at home, on my usual cooking repertoire with a cheese that I normally serve pan-fry and in watermelon salad."

"We usually head out to Merrylands whenever we feel like an Afghani feed, which is often. We love Merrylands but its quite a trek from our pretentious innerwest bubble. So we are thrilled to find Sufra Afghani in Halden Street Lakemba, one of the Sydney's best and most underappreciated food strips. Sufra is a takeaway joint and restaurant with half a dozen big tables and super smiley service. Out the back there's a bunch of master bakers and grillers doing their thing, and they do it so well."
