"Listen, I don 't go into Mansfield often. In fact I 've not been in here for a year or so. Certainly before and back then it was a Wetherspoons and now its Hawthorne Leisure. And little has changed. I mean that. Little. Let me set the scene. Its a cold Tuesday night and I 'm here for a couple of pre match beers before going on to the footy. The pub has around a dozen in but I 'm served with a Stella and it seems palatable enough. Lets face it, its not going to be busy, nor was I expecting it to be. There 's no likewise punters in, home fans or away, so I just have a look around. And can only conclude that it must have been just like this on the day Spoons handed the keys over, took the money and walked away. The same ex Wetherspoon pictures on the walls. Fading paintwork on the doors and peeling paint on the walls. Seems HL have not so much as spent a penny on the place since they got it. Certainly not on the hire of a Rug Doctor for a day, that 's for sure. [Other mechanical carpet cleaners and products are available An interesting feature is a small alcove that has been closed off with chairs and the sort of roadside barriers that utility companies put around a hole in the road. I can only surmise that this is either because.... 1 Something has gone seriously structurally unsound, (or) 2 Its been closed off to keep punters out and minimise the work of the cleaners [see rug doctor rant above, (or) 3 A utility company convention is in town and this is where they have been doing their training, (or) 4 something else And its a pity. There 's no need to run a historically remarkable pub like this by dumbing it down to the quality of other drinking shops in the close locality. Nor would it take much to give it a bit of a spruce up and establish itself with its own identity. Taking the Wetherspoons stuff down would be a start even if it meant having to wallpaper the walls again. You know. Turn it into somewhere you 'd be happy to take your loved one into. If its just a beer you want and you are just passing through, then fine, it ticks the boxes. I didn 't dine here nor would I. If thriving on neglect is the front of shop ethos, one wonders what 's going on round the back. So what I 'm going to do is this. I 'm not gonna write this one off just yet. I 'd guess the duty management and staff are doing their best given what seems to me to be a minimise investment maximise profit exercise thus far. I 'd love to be able to give it a glowing review next time when returning sometime soon and hopefully by then Hawthorne Leisure will have thrown some money at it. They could even dip into their Hedge Funds in fact. See what I did there?. ,"

"Exactly what they would expect from a wetherspoons; good pub-grub, large selection of drinks and friendly customer service at a very cheap price. always great worth here, but a cracking deal meant that we four pints, and 2 x three curs meals, all for less than £30! bargain!"

"Nice pub, good location, friendly staff, food came in a timely manner, Puddings were lovely. Only negative missing onion rings from hunters chicken but check back done when we were nearly finished so to late to mention. Would come again."

"Ordered the food on just eat and paid for it, was delivered after over and hour and half. The next evening the delivery driver was banging on the door, shouting and demanding £12. And all we got was a sorry over text once I had sent the evidence. Oh and also a sarcastic text from the delivery driver awful."

"Visited this place yesterday as was travelling and had our dog so we needed a dog friendly pub for food. All the staff were so friendly was such a welcoming pub they couldn’t make you feel more at home , the food was home made and great value for money! We had the carvery and I had a choc fudge pudding delicious !! We live too far away but if we lived closer I’m sure it would be our local"

"Booked a table for 5 adults to celebrate our sons 31st birthday who past away five years ago the table and chairs we were sat at were perfect very comfortable and completely spacious the staff Louis mainly who waited on us all night was truly awesome very polite and respectful and friendly he and the other waiters and waitresses were brilliant all night long despite how completely busy it was for them all Louis is so amazing to talk to and kept us happy so funny but professional and we'll yet again the food we were served was so beautifully cooked and presentation was brilliant absolutely the best food and presentation skills we always recieve there.we love this place so much my wife had her 50th birthday party there and we rented 5 bedrooms in the lodge the rooms are awesome too very clean very well decorated even free fruit and hot drink s we loved staying so much we are going to have my birthday party in December there and Louis has booked us the whole 6 rooms this time can't wait to stay again TAP HAUS LODGE MANSFIELD ROAD IS JUST AWSOME EVERYTIME WE Visit WE FEEL SO WELCOME AND SPOILED THANK YOU TO ALL MANAGEMENT AND WAITERS, WAITRESSES AND BARSTAFF ALSO THE BRILLIANT CHEFS WHO REALLY REALLY COOK SO GOOD AND PRESENT BEAUTIFUL FOOD AND DESERTS BUT MOST OF ALL WE THANK LOUIS HE IS PERFECT THANKS.
