"This restaurant is a hidden gem. It is right on the sea front and we ate on the outdoor balcony. There was a great choice on the menu, and the food was really good. The wine was nice too, and all reasonably priced. The grilled octopus was superb, as was the tuna, and the fish soup was excellent."

"The Blue Marlin is one of a handful of restaurants along the Marina at Calheta. Like others, the front of the restaurant doubles as a sales point for "Big Game Fishing" and "Whale Watching", with a swarthy, chain-smoking individual in a kiosk hoping to capture the attention of naive tourists. Returning to the food, the menu varied little from the formula seen elsewhere in the more touristy spots of the island, I.e. a few Madeiran dishes, a few desultory salads, a few fish dishes, lots of meat dishes, and a bit of pasta. My sea bass steak was actually well-cooked but the accompanying salad was basic. My partner's penne with chicken and pesto was tasty but the chicken pieces were remarkably uniform in size and probably bought in. A bottle of a vinho verde was pleasantly light. Service just about passable but it was clear that the waitress had her mind on consuming another plate of chips."
