"We have been serving El Mandil for about 5 years and see that they are moving at least 3 times. This last time is a beautiful location with simple parking on the old road coming to the city through the petrol station and propane station. Your breakfast and lunch are buffet style, with egg and meat dishes along with some salads. My favorite here is the Chile Relleno, which was always delicious and not soggy with fat. They always have several essential dishes that either chicken or beef, sometimes pork and always have a pasta dish too. Included in the price is a choice of agua fresca or coffee. We're pretty regular. The service is also attentive."

"This little miracle of a place is on the outskirts of Patzcuaro nestled in the trees at the foot of the mountain. Really, it's only a 15 minute walk from "centro" if you knew where you were going, but a $2.00 cab fare will make it much easier to find. The area is called Los Nogales and this restaurant is behind the Patzcuaro RV Park. That being said...what you will find on arrival is pretty much nothing more than a shack in the woods with a patio with maybe about 6 or 7 tables, rickety at that, with unmatching chairs. And then the magic begins! You are welcomed by the owner and staff with open arms and told that it is buffet style, all you can eat and drink for 150 Pesos (about $8.00 U.S.)...generous Mimosas are served while quiet conversations are made in this eco friendly environment. (There is no wi-fi, thank goodness). A buffet table is set up with Mexican favorites, plus there was Lasagne and a fresh fruit salad for those not up to the local cuisine. My group of 4 loved all the entrees. On other days the cuisine might be Mediterranean, or the wood fired pizza oven may be fired up. I was told that if you make a reservation they will make you what you want. Phone number is 434-130-2529 to discuss your meal. Open only on Wednesdays through Sundays from Noon til 5 p.m.We had coffee afterward but were offered more Mimosas, and were brought mini pieces of Key Lime pie which were outrageously good. I kept wondering where is this stuff coming from? I mean, it's a tiny hole in the wall of a place set in the midst of glorious nature, but obviously, good food comes from people, and not simply places. You can also buy some of the home made sauces and other items from the "deli". How we found the place was through a "locals" page on Facebook. Totally delightful and relaxing in a no-rush setting where you are welcomed with a smile."

"The food is terrific--seafood--and the service is quick and efficient. I have eaten here many times in both their locations, and it is always great."

"Whether it’s steak, salad, pizza, chicken (yes, there’s chicken on the menu even though the theme is Argentine), or just the kind of hand-formed, honest hamburger like the ones you grew up with, you’ll find it here at El Viejo Gaucho. But you’ll first have to start with the hefty baked empanadas. It’s the law. These empandas are practically a meal in themselves, and they’re better than you’ll find anywhere short of trekking to Argentina. Did I mention pizza? The pizza is authentically Argentine, light, a cake-like crust, and worth breaking your diet for. The steaks here are cut from the best beef, tempting enough to make carnivores out of the most dedicated vegetarians. This is one restaurant that you’ll go back to, over and over again. There just isn’t anything quite like it in the entire state – or on this side of the D.F., for that matter.Go. You’ll thank me for it."

"We wandered in to this nondescript hallway to find a sweet courtyard and a warm welcome from the owner, Alejandro, who produced a delightful meal. We shared a delicious ensalada Cesar and the house specialty Pasta Porfino. Alejandro loves Italian cuisine, so be prepared to enjoy the real thing. We savored a fine vino tinto from Baja. Very good. Will enjoy it again!"
