"We didn’t have great expectations, so the disappointment was not great. Firstly, it was cheap. For £15.50 a head we had a free Buck’s Fizz, 3 courses and tea coffee coffee or coffee and soft drinks. The tomato soup had an incredible amount of sugar, unlike any tomato soup I have ever eaten or want to eat again, but the rolls with it were not bad. A beef stew as main was pretty good, but the vegetables with it were inedible, at the same time tough and over cooked. There was a good selection of puddings, some hot, cheese and biscuits, or cold desserts, including gateaux, cheesecake and fruit salad. These were quite acceptable. Tea and coffee came from dispensing machines, so we didn’t bother. This was a buffet meal, so staff were really only there to seat diners and clear the plates, but they were friendly and efficient. This could, with a few tweaks, have been a decent meal. The soup may have been a one-off mistake in the kitchen , as it cannot have been any cheaper to make than something acceptable. The vegetables, again, could, with a little more care, have been edible. While the quantity for the money was outstanding, the quality of some elements of the meal left a lot to be desired."
