"Der Hauptplatz der Kulturstadt in Gmünd. Um die Gäste werben gleich drei Restaurants im Umkreis von 50 Metern. Wir wählten die Goldene Mitte, den Gasthof Alte Post. Ein uriges Gasthaus der alten Schule, vielleicht ein bissl zu alt, aber gut. Wir brauchten die ausführliche Karte nicht, nahmen das, was auf den Tafeln beim Eingang angepriesen wurde: Menu mit Leberreissuppe, Karreesteak mit Eierschwammerln und Speck, dazu Reis statt einer Pommeslawine. Das Fleisch am Punkt, der Reis mit Butter abgeschmeckt. Fein. Weiters das Rindscarpaccio mit Basilikum-Pesto und zart gehobeltem Grana, perfekt.Auch das Auge erfreute sich an den bunten Blüten auf den Gerichten. Die flotte Kellnerin scheint ein Schweigegelübde abgelegt zu haben: Kumm glei. Hat es geschmeckt? Fertig. Das Glas Wasser war gratis, das Menu mit einem leichten Dessert, Orangenscheibe, eine Kugel Eis und eine halbe Banane mit Schokospur kratzte an der 16 Euro-Grenze. Es passte alles, wir saßen auf der Terrasse mit Blick auf die beiden Gastro-Mitbewerber und das Stadtmuseum im Stadtturm, das heuer Werke von Miro zeigt. Weltklassekultur also."
