"It was a great night for our 13-year old sushi obsessed birthday child and family. Nice that we gave this restaurant a chance as it surpassed my expectations, as I thought it would focus mainly on sushi, but it offered more choice than I expected. the service was friendly and the food was delicious, even the desert was beautiful. great for all age groups as there, where some young people from there to the city, food-loving couples and our mixed age family. everyone praised the eating for the staff leaving what is nice to hear. no photos when we were busy eating it as soon as it came."

"Tucked away down Field Street, behind Gaucho's and opposite a factory wall, Wasai is situated in what looks like a fairly non-descript building and at first glance might not seem all that promising.

Wander inside and you're in a little patch of Japan. Friendly service and attentive staff seat you at proper tables with proper chairs. None of those god awful pits and taking your shoes off and so on that were all the rage in Japanese restaurants a few years ago - yes yes, I know it's all terribly authentic, but really....

Four of us decided to go with the Banquet and in case there wasn't quite enough food - we've had bad experiences with so called "banquets" in the past that left you feeling hungry - we added a couple of entrees. Gyoza (because we like gyoza) and karaage (because it sounded like upmarket popcorn chicken and who could say no?

Then the food started arriving. First, about five plates of entree sized serves to share. Soba noodle salad, all sesame oiled up with cherry tomato and avocado. The gyoza, crispy and plump with a beautiful dipping sauce. Creamy tofu, lightly battered an fried, sitting in a soy broth. The karaage chicken, plump little pieces of chicken in a crispy batter. An enormous boat filled with sushi and sashimi, tempura, a seafood broth, teriyaki chicken.

It was a table groaning collection of food and all of it prepared with care and the freshest of ingredients. We ate far more than we thought we could and just enjoyed it all. Although there were desserts on the menu we decided against it (the "wafer thin mint" effect) but they sounded pretty good.

All up with a few drinks, $160 which, for the quantities of food we received, the quality of the ingredients and the care in the presentation seemed more than reasonable. You could go to one of the conveyor belt sushi places and fill your belly for less money, but you wouldn't remember it afterwards.

This WAS a memorable meal."

City: Adelaide, Adelaide Central Plaza, 100 Rundle Mall, Adelaide, 5000, Australia
"Nowadays there are so many sushi shops in Adelaide: at least one in every food court. But this shop has been in Adelaide Central Plaza (i.e., the basement of David Jones Department Store) for many years. It is still the best, as the chef is a Japanese, who knows how to prepare sushi rice and how to roll it with the right pressure; not too hard like the ones in other shops. When I saw him making a salmon roll, I asked him to cut it into a bite size for me. I also bought my favourite Inari-sushi. They were really yummy, just like the ones in Tokyo! And the prices are not high at all. So there is always a long queue of customers during the lunch hour."

"First time sushi in Adelaide and that too at sushi train. What more could one ask for. It's the best I have had till date along with such a great experience. Very courteous staff and quick service. The food doesn't seem to finish."
