"This free-standing walk up food seller is located in the immediate vicinity of the Church at the top of Marktplatz. There is always a line waiting to order food, but it's well worth the wait! Only 3 entrees are available: salmon sandwich; salmon salad; or salmon plate. The salmon fillets are attached to a wooden plank/board, seasoned and fire roasted. It is so moist and flavorful, we returned daily to enjoy their salmon. The roll is a delicious crusty roll, not a hamburger type of bun. They also serve wine. You must use the counter (stand-up) to eat at, no sit down dining, but it's so well worth the experience."

"Three floors stuffed with books and on the fourth, a friendly bright spot to enjoy an excellent cup of coffee, a sandwich or some pies or pastries - that about sums up the café at the University library in Basel. The prices are hard to beat at 2 francs for a fresh cup of coffee and a trifling 2.50 for a well-sized and nicely frothy cappuccino. During lunch hours (from about 11:30 to 2:00,) there's also a small but very appetising salad bar with fresh bread (inclusive,) a soup of the day and both a vegetarian and a non-vegetarian hot meal.And, thanks to being surrounded by windows, you benefit from a wide view and every last ray of the sun."

"While on a Viking Cruise on the Rhine, we docked in Basel for a day town tour and asked our local guide for a recommendation for lunch. She led us to 1777 and told us that the food was great. We did as she suggested and had a wonderful lunch—for me, a cheese and ham sandwich on a baguette and a bowl of chestnut soup—my first chestnut soup. It was wonderful! The service was great, the lunch atmosphere was relaxed with business types and young mothers with their children dining. I wholeheartedly recommend 1777 to you and encourage you to try the chestnut soup. It was so good that I went searching for recipes so that I can try to make it when I get back to the US."

"Having checked out their menu earlier in the day with the very helpful and friendly staff member working the lunch shift to make sure there would be no problems finding a selection that would not upset my wife's dietary sensitivities, we came back for an early evening meal that was made so special by not only the quality of the food but the wonderfully cheery staff on duty who happily interacted with us. My wife went for a simple tuna sandwich with salad and the manager who took our order, aware of her dairy sensitivities, even made a special check that she would be OK with the way they made their bread. Other staff also checked with her during the meal to ensure everything was perfect for her.As for me, thankfully capable of eating most things without any issues, I had gone for the rack of ribs with a zesty sauce. Normally the high spot of this for me is getting into such a mess trying to get the meat off the bones and usually resorting to the King Henry VIII technique of picking individual ribs up with my fingers to gnaw away at. This restaurant's rack comes already boned and all you have to do is use the knife and fork and enjoy the beautifully cooked meat and sauce without needing to find a holiday dry cleaner the next day! The restaurant was showing a major football match on its TV's later in the evening and many of the tables were already reserved for that period which proved that this was a popular venue with locals. And so it should be judging by the fabulous experience we had tonight.Thank you to all the ladies on duty and the Duty Manager for a very happy dining experience and some lovely genuine Irish interactions and humour."

"Are you kidding me, they have a review space for McDonalds?!! I can't believe anyone would need one because who hasn't been in one before and knows exactly what they are like? I will say that Swiss McDonalds like the one I visited are very...clean and the design is very inviting. Tell you the truth as I get older, my visits to fast food places tends to decline, but this place is great for a few quick bites down memory lane. The prices are heart attack inducers for many people from the North American side of the world, I saw meals posted for about francs USD) at the regular medium size. But the bathrooms are really clean at lest at this location, and it seems to be very family-friendly. I've seen some McDonalds around other parts of the world that attract some...interesting characters...but this one was pretty straightforward."
