"Our meal started with escargots and a salad which were OK. I had a stir fry which was made with frozen vegetables and severely over cooked. The steak in the dish looked like scraps from another meal. Not good. The bench we sat at afforded a pretty decent view of the St. Lawrence, but the seat had no back, was flat and hard, and was about 15 centimetres too high, leaving our feet dangling while we ate. My feet were numb by the end of the meal. My dessert was very tasty, a butter tart with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce. Our server was very attentive, knew the menu and recommended their house salad dressing which was delicious. Kudos to her. My wife and I have eaten here quite a few times, and considered the food to be hit and miss. Probably will return for drinks and snacks, but not for dinner."

"Five of us went to Boomers to celebrate my friend's birthday. It was almost 7pm when we arrived on a Friday night. Our first hint should have been the lack of patrons. A few pension aged, afternoon drinkers were clustered near the bar but other than that we were left to our own devices in the large and ill kept establishment. We'd heard that the food was good so despite the obvious issues with cleanliness and our growing annoyance with the lack of service, we waited. After about 15 minutes of being completely ignored by the waitress, my friend went and got us a menu from the bar. We quickly decided on an extra large "Meat Lovers" pizza and a pitcher of Lug Tread. My friend took the menu back to the bar and tried to place our order. The waitress continued to ignore him and he returned to the table questioning whether she had actually even taken the order at all. We sat at the table perplexed and our confusion was only deepened when she eventually dropped of tepid glasses of tap water, reeking of chlorine and sped off again while I asked the back of her head about our beer and our pizza. After we'd been there for an hour we decided we were too hungry to wait any longer. We went outside for a cigarette and to decide where we were going to go for dinner now that it was almost 8pm. Just as we were getting ready to leave the cranky old waitress came outside and told us that our pizza was ready. I should have told her to shove her pizza at that point, we'd been there over an hour and she couldn't even bring us a pitcher of beer! Hunger won out over common sense so I told her that we'd be right in and I reminded her that we'd ordered beer to go with the pizza. She spun on her heel and was gone without acknowledging me. It was some of the most bizarre behavior on the part of a waitress I've ever experienced and as a truck driver, I've eaten at many bars and restaurants all over North America and I've seen some weird stuff. It felt like we were despised and resented customers rather than valued customers and none of us could figure out why! We went back in and waited for another ten minutes for the pizza. When it arrived I asked her again about the beer and her response was that we all looked "plenty stoned enough." It caught us all off guard because it was simultaneously ridiculous and embarrassing. Was this her archaic way of accusing us of being drunk or was she accusing us of being high on drugs? Fine, I told her, "just bring us the bill." She didn't even do that. 3 out of the 5 of us that were sitting at that table have Smart Serve certification and none of us could figure out what lead her to that conclusion. Admittedly, our appetites were somewhat fouled by the waitress and the general ambiance but even had that not been the case, our $30 pizza was lackluster at best. Despite having had over an hour to prepare it, the dough was still raw in spots, while the meager meat toppings were blackened. The sauce was nonexistent but that was probably a good thing judging from the quality of the other ingredients and the lack of care taken in preparation. I'm sure that there must be some back story to what happened there last night but the entire dinner from our point of view was absurd and inexcusable. None of us will ever be back under any circumstances. Nick's, Papa Larry's, Mr. Mozzarella and Pizza Pizza all make a superior pizza for less money and without the incomprehensibly horrible wait staff. It was train-wreck of a birthday party."
