"Having lunch in Castelluccio we were advised by another diner that we should without fail go to this cheese and salami shop in a village just outside Visso. The Torta di Ricotta was 'to die for ' she said. Having found the local ricotta to be delicious and having seen some good reviews on TA we made sure that we called in on our way back home. As we looked around and decided what to buy the owner and his wife became friendly and told us something about the history of the business which was founded in 1906. They showed us a family picture on the wall which included the owner 's father as a baby. We bought the Torta di Ricotta of course as well as some large biscuits pan di pescatore full of almonds, pine nuts and dried fruit. These they told us were the real thing, everyone else 's are just copies. When we got them home and tried them they were indeed really good. The ricotta cheesecake was as good as we had been promised with a lovely layer of almond paste at the bottom infused with alcohol of some sort really outstanding. We also bought some Villanella spreadable sausage. Again they are very proud of this, which they are keen to distinguish from the Ciauscolo sold by other butchers. Soft and with a mild flavour it makes a great alternative to standard dried salami. It was nice to talk to an artisan butcher who was obviously so proud of what he produced. Next time we will have to try some of the bread which is baked on the premises and the Prosciutto and other sausage. I think there is a small bar attached to the shop, but we missed it next time!"
