"We came to celebrate my son's birthday. They love the tricks at the teppenyaki grill. We brought a cake to have after dinner was served. The hostess didn't even take the cake we brought. We had to ask her to take it. The servers were rushing us. The teppenyaki chef, Andy, was in a hurry and just cooked the food without any tricks. We saw at near other tables near by the guest were laughing and clapping. My boys really missed out. This was the second time we had Andy as our chef. The first time he stopped in the middle of cooking to take a phone call. When we finished dinner they brought us the check without bringing out the cake we brought. So when we asked they brought out the cake, lit the candles, and sang happy birthday. Then they just left the cake on the table. They didn't cut it like most restaurants do. They didn't bring us a knife to cut the cake ourselves. We had to ask for it. We've going to this restaurant for five years and the experience we had these last two times we will NEVER return again."

"I am very picky about where I buy my fish, especially if I'm eating it raw. While not as good as fish from my favorite sit down sushi bars, Hawaiian Poke is one of the few poke places in the Tri Valley that passed my test, meaning no dire consequences post consumption. My go to is the medium bowl with all yellowtail, all ahi or a mix of the 2. You get up to 3 choices of protein so I sometimes add albacore but don't like the heavy sear. They label their white rice as sushi rice but it is not seasoned so I usually ask for some lemon ponzu sauce drizzled over the rice only. The topping choices aren't as varied as other places but it is adequate and works for me. I like that all toppings are included, no extra charge for popular ingredients. All in all, a safe and relatively inexpensive way to soothe my raw fish cravings, no tribute to the throne required. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4"
