"I haven’t had a chance to visit my home country, Taiwan in 3 years due to Covid and personal reasons. Ootoya is very common in Taipei and has been my comfort food since my childhood. I was able to finally visit the Union square location because I was touring the area. The food was great and had great flavor, exactly like the locations in Taiwan and Japan. The price is very high in the US when compared to those in other countries. I spend a total of 95.81 and tipped 10% which I didn’t realize that I was under tipping. After signing the receipt, the waitress immediately opened the card folder and called me out from across the restaurant. My experience was immediately ruined. She didn’t directly tell me that I under tipped but instead she called me out by asking “sir, is everything ok?” With an attitude and unsatisfied face. I understand that I under tipped and would have no problem adjusting it if I needed to. I just hope that she wouldn’t called me out from across the restaurant and made me feel bad for the rest of my day. This experience didn’t live up to the typical Japanese motto which is to always put customers at first.I don’t want to do this restaurant wrong with my experience at the end. I did enjoy the food and dessert. Customer service was great until the end, but I am sure it’s just some misunderstanding."
