"On the other night, four of us decided to try the El Salvador Restaurant Atlacatl. We were all familiar with his big yellow sign of driving on Beverly Boulevard, but no one had eaten or eaten in a restaurant in El Salvador. The way to the door of the restaurant in a small house) was suspended with lanterns, a very nice touch. Once inside we were transported to another world, lively and full of Spanish speakers. The menu offers many traditional dishes, most of which were unfamiliar. We were so hungry that we brought something out with the order! The stars of the show were definitely the pupusas de loroco y queso. Loroco, small unopened edible flower buds, are widely used in El Salvadorean cuisine and taste a little asparagus. These Pupusa had a wonderful creamy taste and texture, the melt cheese, the masa flat bread and the Loko. In addition, another dimension came through the curtido or cabbage salad, which was delivered to the table in a huge glass, to which we could help our palate. The pastelitos de puerco e verduras were a little disappointing. Deep-fried ovals with a pure filling that was not very tasteful. We ordered the Atol de elote who has no idea what to expect. It ended as a bowl of corn soup, rather on the sweet side for our taste. Apparently, this court has Maya roots that are interesting from a historical perspective. The mojarra entomatada, a whole tilapia served with tomatoes, cucumbers and black beans pure was perfection, the fish sweet and damp. Probably the strangest thing we had was the Chilate con nuegados, platanos y camotes en miel. This was a mixture of plantains, sweet potatoes and roasted beignet type things shaped like mushrooms, accompanied in a honey sauce with chilate. We couldn't find out what Chilate was doing so today, and I discovered that it was based on Atol with the addition of Cacao and Chile. It makes a good companion to the Nuegados... All this was accompanied by freshly made small rounds of flat bread and numerous bottles of Salvadoran beer!!!! The service deserves a mention as it was very warm and friendly. The waitress had a hard time to describe our food, but she did her best with a smile!"
