"June 16, 2017; We had a friend take us there and he highly recommended this establishment. He was correct, I sampled his tuna bites and they were very good. I got the shrimp and it was excellent, cooked to perfection. Good service and prices. My wife got a shrimp Bisk soup and it too was excellent. This restaurant could be number 1 if the servers were more attentive and friendly. Like someone else stated they are like robots. I also like the fact that management actually reads these reviews and wants to exceed. Do not miss the opportunity to eat here, the food and prices are very good and the ambiance is good as well."

"I don't know why they call themselves tapas because that is not what's in store. If you want lots of tequila this place is for you. Food wise what they have are semi decent quality mexican styled apps, but a very limited menu. Place is decent if you want a loud place to hang out and something to munch on but I'd never go here normally to make a meal out of it."

"Mariscos Solo is a favorite of my friends and me - it's a wonderfully relaxed seafood joint with a small informal dining room (big windows allow the indoor diners to see the outside patio and the streets beyond) and tables for four outdoors. If you're looking for fresh-off-the-boat octopus, shrimp and clam cocteles, this is where they're available without breaking the bank. Their menu is fixed –anything you want as long as it's a coctel in small, medium & large. Oh, they also have a killer ceviche. Ever present are these bags of big round tortilla chips. My pals and I don't mess around - we go for vaso grande with sides of ceviche. Our meals come in paper cups, floating in red sauce que tiene picante - chiles, cilantro & onion. Check out the almeja - 'coctele' or en concha, (in the shell) - or the pulpo (octopus). Or take any of the single seafoods 'solo' - just shrimp or just clam.We get Mexican cokes with cut limes, but they also serve the regular Mexican beers.Below I marked "atmosphere" because the place is full of street-cred atmosphere, and you should know that the "scenic view" marked below is of a bustling intersection where shoeshine guys mingle with cab drivers and then Range Rovers pull up so guys with gold Rolexes send their vamped-up bottle-blonde girlfriends in the joint to pick up their take-out food...When we started showing up there about 20 years ago, the place was called ‘Mariscos Socio,’ Mariscos Solo is just the same - good food and good price!"

"As I have said in previous reviews, living in TJ was a pleasure for its gastronomy. Famous worldwide for its food, that goes far beyond the well know street goodies, tacos and coronas, the new and young food scene in TJ is great. This tacos for instance, offer very unusual options, even for a mexican! from portobello, to octopues and mixes in between. This is a very inspired, committed effort by its creators. Add to that the creativity in the salsas they craft and you have a unique experience, highly recommended. Also, not cheap, but well worth it, this is a place not to eat a million tacos, but a few well selected and enjoyable new type of tacos."

"This is a pleasant bistro/café in which to spend a nice afternoon or evening with your girlfriends, family, significant other, etc. The food is imaginative, tasty, beautifully plated and affordable.We enjoyed crispy octopus tacos garnished with a spicy avocado smear and a lemon yoghurt sauce that was crisp, tangy, cooling and perfect. We also enjoyed grilled octopus that's prepared with kalamata olives and cherry tomatoes. Beef tongue tostadas was another hit as well as the grilled eggplant with brie and deep fried leeks on a balsamic vinegar/chocolate bed. We sampled two tarts for dessert, a guava and an apple/walnut; both were delicious and a perfect sweet ending to a delightful meal. Many of the plates being served to other diners looked appetizing and worth subsequent visits to try out. The only slip-up were the sweet potato fries that were soggy and way too greasy but this negative was more than counterbalanced by all the other dishes. Plates are perfect size for sharing and tasting. They have a fairly wide selection of wines, beer, soft-drinks and cocktails. The owner is present and watchful of all service details.They are open 2-10 M-Th and 2-11 F and S; closed Sunday."
