"We traveled from ottawa to land in bancroft. from the carbahn 41, which turn off at the highway 28, there are very few or no restaurants, and we got hungry. the restaurant of swiss inn at the crossing of the highways 28 and 41 was closed. with one to sell sign and we desperately got the lunch until we get bancroft. but only a few minutes from the road near the intersection of highway 28 and shutt road, we came over this jewel of a place. years ago there was a sugar bush tied to the annoying, but now it is a huge blockhouse restaurant, a bit hornsirup museum, a bit a gift shop and delicious food. the place is huge, and they keep high times, parties and there is a stage for a live band and a dance floor. it feels like we're in an Adirondack log cabin that was spacious and yet cozy. there was a bird food outside the window, and it was obvious that the site was maintained. the menu is home cooking style with a bakery. it is simple, polite and nothing fantasies just delicious. we sat at steinkamin. they had a wonderful suppe of the day, and I ordered a club sandwich that was great. the brot was fresh, the ingredients were fresh and I hunted it with a beer. the owners are a few who had the place for over seven years, and it is quite obvious that they are happy as hostess. they are chatting hard. on the way into the restaurant area we saw a pan of home baked, still warm glue leaf rolls and my partner mentioned that she had not had one in years. the hostess said it was for a party in this night, but she brought one on a teller for us to share with butter. it was melted in your mouth good. my mouth waters as I write. there is a lot of baked goods for dessert, and many of them are baked on the ground. mapleton house also sells local maple syrup and souvenirs, but they were sold from the maple syrup, so late in the season. they also sell some maple vinaigrettes, salad dresses, jams and other local products. this place is a lot out of the way, but we were on our way to bancroft anyway, and we will definitely get back in when we are on this way down."
