"This bistro is tucked away in the pleasant neighbourhood of Wiehre. The daily lunch menu is an ample portion of your choice of two vegetarian dishes with soup or salad as a side dish. Today we had spinach lasagne and lentil shepherd's pie with sweet...potato soup both delicious combinations! It's a popular spot for the locals, and the cook and her staff serve the lunch crowd quickly and efficiently, exchanging comments in English, French or German. The tasty dishes, cozy atmosphere, and friendly staff keep us coming back"

"We went to Kartoffelhaus on a summer evening, which allowed us to sit outside, which I would definitely recommend, as the inside of the restaurant is not very pretty. Contrary to some of the reviews here, we were met with excellent service, friendly waiters and...our food arrived quite fast, even though the restaurant was packed. The food is a little too pricy for what it‘s worth, even though it was very tasty."

"We booked as a group on our tour of the black forest......oh dear....it all went pearshaped......food was mass Faye and not very clever........the starter salad was ok....but hey...you don't need to be a culinary artist to produce this.......the main course was a dry supreme od...chicken on cabbage....some sort of sauce which was over sweet .....I think they used some jam to sweeten the sauce.....yak ..edible when you had few beers......anyway the dessert was a joke.......this particular dessert is a trademark of the black forest...kirschbomble.....what we got was a bought in tasteless icecream.....I am afraid I would have to use very bad language to describe this disaster......all in all a poor experience not be repeated.......I am embarrassed bringing group to this establishment......not surprised it was empty."

"Invited here by a supplier one evening, I was told that this was a new pace in town, which should be excellent. Placed in the outskirts of Altstadt, close to the steep hills and old fortifications of freiburg, it is easy to reach - albeit not by car.The restaurant is fairly small, but is very cosy and becoming. Service was attentive in a slightly off-handed way, but we never the less felt welcome.Fo r starter I har an excellent fish soup, which was both wholesome and slightly spicy. For the main course I had chosen a pink roasted piece of veal with a smooth risotto with horseradish and small cubes of slightly pickles and boiled beetroot. This was indeed a new twist on a classic - but not uninteresting - and indeed delicious. A small and delicious desset of blackcurrant sorbet finished a nice evening off.The house red (on Spätburgunder) was OK - but a bit bland and uninspiring. One of my hosts decided to go for a slightly better bottle, and a Dr. Heger Mimus Spätburgunder 2013 came on the table - this was an excellent choice - smooth, fruit-laden and with character to match the horseradish.Recommendable."

"The potato house is hardly surpassed in regionality. We drive to Freiburg several times a year to enjoy a very special atmosphere and food in this outstanding location. The wide range of vegetarian us vegan dishes is also a huge plus point. We have so far gone home more and more as satisfied."
