"Finding somewhere nice to eat has always been a challenge to us, as regular travelers to San Gil, so finding this place was a pleasant surprise. I understand from the waiter that there are two Juan Mar restaurants. I am reviewing the one in the centro commercial San Gil which is just outside town on the main road to Socorro. The restaurant is situated on the fourth floor and is open on the side facing the mountain so you get a great view, cooling breeze and depending where you sit and time of day a lot of sun ! It has a very Caribbean feel with lounge style music that I loved. Makes a change from vallenato ! I had the langostinos encocados which are jumbo shrimp coated in shredded coconut and deep fried. Fantastic !! My partner had a small cazuela of mariscos....a shellfish casserole. Again, very good ! I had a couple of mojitos to wash it down, first was ok but second a bit sweet. Shame because I wanted to give them five stars. I recommend this place to anyone who likes well prepared seafood and is prepared to pay a little more. As an appetizer, they served us complementary patacones with homemade mayonnaise and tomato sauces both of which were excellent. The menu is quite varied and they have pasta dishes for those that don't fancy seafood"

"A large menu with different choices later on the day than at lunchtime. a bit expensive, but large portions. when they go to lunch as for the menu del dia, it was not advertised, but the best value option. also had a choice of meat and...pages that are rare! service was slow for everything except el menu"

"We came for lunch and when we said we were vegan, were presented with 2 options for a menu del día, a lentil stew or bean stew served with rice, potatoes, a juice, and a small desert. Everything was tasty and filling and had a comfort food feel. Sergio was so kind and helpful, when I mentioned I wanted to do parapente he booked a tour for me for the next day leaving from La Mansion. Best vegan option I found in San Gil and sweet staff in a nice courtyard setting."

"We stayed in San Gil for more than a week and went for lunchtime to this lunchrestaurant. From the main square it's a 10 minutes walk (at your right side), the sign is not clear. It's a restaurant that attracks the locals. It's run by a really nice lady. The food (soup main dish fresh juice) is delicious and the portions are huge. Every day the menu changes, all made with fresh ingredients. The menu consist of local food, vegetarian (arepitas, avocado salad, potatoes,.. And... It's really cheap (COP 5500/ menu). Don't miss this place, it's worth to look for it!"
