"We did a bit of grocery shopping then decided to go for dim sum close by. This restaurant does not have a noticeable store front so you’d have to know about this place or you could easily walk right by it. The place is small...and needs some refreshing but caters to the older Asian crowd in the neighbourhood. Food is pretty good for the price point. Portions are quite large."

"I came here recently as part of a large weeknight group dinner. It's a small ish place, but surprisingly even on a Wed night it was full. I'm sure it gets even busier on the weekends. Anyone who knows me knows I love my family style Cantonese dinners! They're my go to for special occasions and I always appreciate a good meal with fresh seafood, meat, and veggies. It was my first time at Haiyi. Overall I thought the dishes were good but not amazing, and my favorites were the fresh seafood. Here's what we had mark my favorites): Fried tofu Squab Russian king crab cooked 3 ways steamed, stirfried, and the shell was served with fried rice topped with seafood curry Ling cod cooked 2 ways casserole with tofu and pork, stirfried fillet with peas Curry shrimp Chicken stuffed with glutinous rice Stir fried beans Stir fried beef and eggplant Sweet and sour pork Dessert complimentary): black sesame pudding, small almond cookies, osmanthus jelly We ordered way too much food, and our table had plenty of leftovers to take home. The whole meal wasn't cheap, especially with all the seafood. We ended up paying $110 pp after tax and tip. There's apparently underground parking which I wasn't aware of until other people told me. I parked 2 blocks away on 30th with free residential parking, but there's metered parking available closer to the restaurant as well."

"There were three of us and we went for dim sum on a Sunday at 10:30 am with no reservations. The restaurant was busy but we managed to get a table after a 5-minute wait. Dim sum dishes are still wheeled around the restaurant on a cart and you pick whatever you want. You can also order lunch specials. Menu was in both Chinese and English. About 25% of the patrons were non-Chinese. I have been to this restaurant several times and I am always satisfied with the food.We had five dim sum dishes and a plate of noodles from the lunch specials. Total cost of meal was $28 before tip. We were quite full and had leftovers that we took home in a doggie bag. Service was friendly and the staff understood English.Restaurant is on NE corner of East 41st Ave and Main St. Parking is free on the street along 41st Avenue."

"I wouldn't say Its a Very Good Chinese restaurant especially on the East Side of Vancouver but a good restaurant. The reason I am giving it an average rating is because the price is about $1.00 higher for the food you get and the location. There should be an above average or good rating for this restaurant. They are charging Downtown prices for an East End Restaurant. Don't get me wrong the food is good but there are other restaurants that charge a tad lower price."

"We tried Chong's Restaurant the first time back in March, 2012, we have now dined there on most of the Saturday mornings (and a few Sunday mornings) since then. We like, and really appreciate the early-morning opening time (dim sum for breakfast - yea,)! the very casual and friendly atmosphere, our friendly dining companions, the good service, and for us, it's definitely dim sum prepared and served the way we like it. It's a small place, it gets crowded and noisy, and that has always felt so good to us!!We have now tried 21 of 37 of the basic dim sum dishes on the menu (which are now priced at $2.90/each,) 11 of 18 'chef specials,' and 2 of 13 of the larger rice/noodle dishes. We have yet to try any of the congees (and there's a good selection of such) and have limited our trying of the larger dishes, as we prefer to order more dishes at any given time, so concentrate on the smaller, more of what we would call the more typical 'dim sum' dishes.We have yet to try anything we have not enjoyed, and our favourite dishes are now quite numerous -- but here's a few of the dishes we order most-often: steamed prawn dumplings, steamed pork shiu mai dumplings, steamed beef ball, steamed veggie "

"After a 10 hour flight from the UK and nearly 2 hours getting through immigration at Vancouver Airport, I was exhausted, hungry and in unfamiliar territory. The husband and I had noticed the restaurant downstairs from our apartment and so we decided to venture down there for some food before crashing out. The place doesn't look very inviting when you walk up to it and there was only one other family inside dining (granted it was 4 in the afternoon though). But we stuck to our decision and went for it. The menu wasn't easy to decipher but we went for the combo menu as it included soup, an egg roll and a choice of dishes. We chose the Wonton Soup and went for a chilli beef and chicken rice dish. We were literally telling the waitress our order when she just walked off and never came back. After waiting, bewildered for a few minutes, someone else came over and took our order. The wonton soup was actually very very good. If all the food had been at that standard, I would definitely have awarded more stars. Sadly, this was not to be. The beef dish was okay, well flavoured and the meat was well cooked but the giant chunks of ginger were a bit much for me. The chicken rice though didn't look very appetising, although the rice was well cooked - the chicken looked a bit grey. Portion sizes were huge. I couldn't tell you about the egg roll though, it never came! The place looks pretty scruffy, dated and not the cleanest. It was a passable meal but barely and only because I was too tired to look any closer at what I was eating. I wasn't impressed with the waitress assuming a tip when we paid either. Again, we were too tired and jet lagged to realised until the following morning. I'm afraid I wouldn't recommend this place at all."
