"Purple Yam Manila is a culinary vision of Romy Dorotan and Amy Besa. This power couple is behind NYC's Cendrillon (SoHo) and Purple Yam (Brooklyn). They also authored "Memories of Philippine Kitchen" which summarizes their reflection in Philippine food culture, its flavors and tastes.

No wonder Purple Yam Manila would be an expression of their deep love of the cultural heritage in terms of Filipino cuisine.

Their menu costs P2,500 per person and when you go through their degustation menu (with some chit-chat with Amy), you would realize all of it is worth it.

We started out with an "amuse bouche" of popcorn with dried fish and roasted garlic. Then cheese tart with Malagos Farm Rustica cheese and kesong puti from Sta. Cruz Laguna. The pastry shell was flaky and buttery. The cheese tart was served with fresh guava compote.

Next was Kinagang, a Sorsogon "tamale" with shrimps and crabmeat on a bed of buko *& lukadon all wrapped in banana leaf. Then served was Binacol with organic chicken (leg-part), bokchoy, red radish & buko which had the aromatic coconut broth poured from a bamboo stem.

Main course was platters of Beef shortrib adobo with mango vinegar from Abra, barbecued baby back ribs with black peppercorn from Dugan farm Batangas, Camote Anna (camote & taro ala pommes Anna) and a native green salad of spinach, watercress, sayote tops, tomato & mangosteen dressing.

Then there was dessert the made one of the ladies cry at the other table, i kid you not! Purple Yam Malate Special Iced Dessert!! Watermelon ice, home-made nata & kaong, passionfruit sorbet, mangisteen ice cream and pinipig.

To make it short, everything was spectacular!! Fresh clean flavors!

Was it worth it?....... It's all worth it. Just keep your palate open to all possibilities.

boodlebear.wordpress.com"

"I liked this branch. Unlike the one near the office, the vegetable here retains the crisp and freshness. I enjoyed the Garlic Kangkong, and Pork Sinigang. The Tapa King is still good. The accompanying fried egg is too oily for my liking. The service is generally fast, and the interior is neat."

"Zark's was my favorite place! I can only go here with P150-P200 and order a huge burger with fries and iced tea. Your beef burger patties taste more than it's worth! The food is so heavy that I always feel bloated here. ????

The service is ok. The ambience of the place is ok although they honestly need a bigger place because they often have a long line outside. But that's Zarks."

"Yukdaejang is a korean soup with shredded beef and boiled until thickened. Here in Yukdaejang Malate, they are different on other korean ramen house because they only specializes yukdaejang, apparently this restaurant has very limited dishes to order. So if you dont want some soup or ramen for lunch, this restaurant is not for you. Since they have very limited choices, the area is not crowded. For the Prices, Reasonable when it comes to servings but it's expensive if taste is concern. nothing to rave above. must order is the traditional yukdaejang and boiled pork with soy sauce. For the location Yukdaejang is accessible, just at the remedios circle. Ambiance, Very cozy and at home vibe they also have korean setup dinning. Service, They serve fair and fast maybe because we are the only costumers at that time.

foodchief.weebly.com"

"If you are a student and you need something quick and reasonable for your budget then the tummy box is a good option. After my meeting with one of my clients in WH Taft. I decided to celebrate a little and dine in this place. It has cheap decent food perfect for the students who are on allowance mode. I got myself their sweet and sour breaded fish fillet that had more breading than the fish. Full meal with drink for 135 pesos that had more rice to, which is enough for the students."

"We had a taste of kinds of beef.. it's delicious but the staff are a lil too busy to serve you... They give few lettuce wraps every serving we had to constantly keep calling for more but they are too busy. They don't have exhaust for the grill so you'll end up smelling samgyupsal after...The place is oily everywhere."

"The service was great, everyone was really warm and welcoming, despite we went in almost at their closing time but they are still very happy to serve us. It was raining really hard last night and after picking up our brand new iphone6 from malate, we stumble across this hidden gem, didnt know they have been open for more than 20+ years and we never been here. The mixed pot for 2 was definitely enough for my bf and I. Also their Ice Tea was just ubber delicious. Coming back for sure.

PS, forgot to mention that you can mix your own dipping sauce with fresh chopped garlic and onion together with this special Satay sauce... just heaven!!!"
