"We drifted in here on Canada Day. Not a good day to go somewhere without a reservation, and in downtown Barrie? Extremely busy. Had been to three restaurants that couldn't serve us because it was so busy. So, in the Local Gastropub, we got a seat in 15 minutes! It was really busy, and they appeared to be 'under' staffed, but that didn't figure into the equation. We got served quickly. They had an extensive "local" beer selection (which is nice, cause it's local stuff!) and we ordered appetizers cuase that's all we needed. The food was a wee bit slow in coming, but it came, and we ate! There were four of us, so, having not eaten anything there before, weren't sure of the quantity, but it was OK. We ran out of corn chips for the dip, and probably could have gotten more, but we didn't ask. Probably better if we had picked one more thing. I would go back to have a normal dinner here. The atmosphere was nice and the staff friendly."

"My husband and I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday during Barrielicious. What a mistake! The menu sounded lovely, and it was one of the few restaurants we haven't tried in the city...The carrot ginger soup was a strange texture and an even stranger flavour. I ate a bit of it and when the waitress asked if I was done, I said yes. She asked how I liked it, and I shrugged and said that it was fine.Next I had the chicken stuffed with asparagus, garlic gnocchi, seasonal vegetables, and a smoked applewood cheddar sauce. The only thing edible on the plate was the sauce (although it was salty). The chicken has clearly come frozen from a box and the asparagus looked and tasted as though it had already been chewed. The gnocchi was dense and mushy and overwhelmingly garlicky. The veggies were soggy and overcooked. My husband got the striploin. It was edible but at most 1cm thick. On a positive note, the view of the lake was nice, it looked trendy, and would likely be a great place to get a drink after work.We will definitely not be back. I just feel badly for the waitstaff... They will be unemployed soon."
