"Keen to see if the “Eastern Promise” in Grampound remained as good as it had been over a decade ago, we booked in for a Saturday evening meal for two. It was truly awful. This was on a Saturday evening, midway between Christmas and New Year and we were the only customers in this dreadful restaurant (see photograph). Service was appalling, the ‘waiter’ was unable to provide us with either a blackcurrant and soda or a lager shandy “We don’t stock blackcurrant and soda or shandy.” (us): ‘Do you have lager and lemonade?’ “Why yes.” (us): ‘Well that’s what you mix together to make a shandy.’ We chose the set menu for two people, but what arrived bore scant resemblance to that depicted on the menu. The first part of the starter should have been a delicious, hot, crispy duck. It was neither delicious, hot nor crispy. It was cold, mushy and felt as if it had been frozen, defrosted, heated, refrozen and reheated. The second part of the starter was even worse, so much so that at this point we gave up, paid for the appalling food already served and left. To add insult to injury, the ‘waiter’ and manager then tried to bill us for the cost of the entire meal. Please, please, please if you are near to the “Eastern Promise” in Grampound and feeling hungry drive straight past and eat anywhere else. It was the worst dining experience we’ve ever had. Truly abysmal."

"Quite a nice Chinese, but a bit hit miss. Duck was nice, so was a few of the other bits. But prawn balls a few other bits were lacking in taste. I have given the place a generous 4 star only cos couldn't give a 3.5."

"It let me do my whole order online and then got to checkout and it said I can’t place an order online, said it closes at 11pm, arrived here at 10:30 for a takeaway order and was closed, not happy about this situation as we do not live local!!!!!!"

"We chose Happy House after trawling google looking for dinner options whilst staying in the area. Other options didn’t have particularly good reviews so opted for this as it had enough reviews to take a chance and try it out. Unfortunately it wasn’t the best, the food was quite greasy and lacked flavour. Salt and pepper chicken was coated pieces of chicken and some sliced chillies and garlic chucked on it with no flavour or spice to it. The final disappointment was when I discovered half way through my chow mien a piece of chicken bone! Gross.. Thankfully I noticed when I bit down and didn’t choke. Safe to say I stopped eating from that point. If I did live in the area I would not reorder from Happy House again."

"Found this by chance after searching around for dinner for a hungry family. Lucked out as food amazing and as good a Thai meal as I have had in the UK. Starters excellent especially a peanut fritter thingy we hadn’t tried before. Then went for curries and all top notch. BYOB always a bargain and a tescos metro over the road. Nice people and a great meal."

"Amazingly authentic Asian food! The pad see ew, and spring rolls (which I didn't photograph sadly) were amazing, the service was great and staff were lovely so we went back for sushi, the sushi was so so beautiful so nice and fresh, the chef and owner even came out and spoke to us she was lovely, one of the best places in Cornwall would highly recommend!"
