"Located on Beaumont street, next to the Post office . time there. The breakfast of bacon and eggs cooked anyway u like , with thick toast Was very good. Friendly staff. Coffee good large Indoor and outdoor dining in under cover...alley way leading down to other restaurants."

"My first impression..... Behind the bar the gentleman was lovely and organised a table and then it was down hill. Staff member was asked to set up table and the table was set up with a scrunched up table cloth and dirty. In fact every table cloth was scrunched up and dirty. May I suggest you just don't put down table cloths. Within 5 minutes of being there we left. I thought if presentation was not important they may also not take pride in food preparation nor cleanliness. I hope all improves. First impression is a lasting impression."

"I'll still give it a five-star. I asked for hard shell Taco , but I got Soft. Regardless, the tacos are delish and genuine tasting. Lower rating for service as they're not listening to what customers are asking for. Maybe it's a language barrier or ignorant of the menu?Still friendly polite . They have a good outdoor eating area hereParking: Walk in there from side streets after parking.It's about a 7-minute walk to Hamilton station."

"Having reserved a table for 6.30pm the Saturday night before Mothers Day you would think we would be in for a lovely evening.As regular patrons of SJs we have watched the eating area evolve into a very pleasant place. For young and old or family meals. We have spent several birthdays here and enjoyed them.When we witnessed a very noisy drinking game (boat race) between 2 local football club complete in their red and the other green jersey we should have known to turn around. I was shocked to see a bar man walk up to the table of standing opposite teams ... and deliver them 4 beers to add to the existing 4-5 they had lined up. We proceeded to see most of the front bar, stop and watch and take photos as they raced to skull their beers. Responsible service? I think not.It was with great dismay that this Saturday night when we took my partners mother, who'd been at work since 8am to an early Mother's Day dinner ... we were served substandard food 2hours after ordering.We watched other tables around us also wait 1.5-2.5hours with young children ... not be served.My partners pork cutlet arrived warm, his mothers lamb cutlets where from 2 different batches (one pink inside the other over cooked, obviously 2 different shades) the serve of vegetables and mash was dismal. 8 mins later (enough for me to go to the bar to get 2 beers and 2 mixed drinks at busy 8.15 on a Saturday night) my pasta arrived ... which although full of fresh seafood was splashed into the plate and was flavourless except for a dusting of chilli.We were so hungry and shocked we did not ask for refunds as several tables around us did.I still cannot believe this is the same place we took friends for dinner not so long ago. The chef and kitchen staff have never been so disorganised. Unbelievable.The only thing great was the lovely young girl who has been there for a week. How she was still fresh and polite I have no idea.This was a reliable go to venue for a decent meal and good service. Incredibly disappointed. Not sure if we will give them benefit of the doubt and try again.If this is new chef and kitchen staff ... then you truly need to lift your game."

"We went for lunch to the Northern Star and were surprised to see it so empty. It is a nice pub with nice furnishings. My husband wasn't particularly hungry so we decided to share one of their lunch time specials. It was a pulled pork pizza with would you believe apple sauce, red onion, capsicum and mozzarella cheese. It was a long time coming but when it did it was worth the wait. The pastry was thin and crisp and the toppings really complimented each other. At $10 it was great value.Unfortunately their beers were not good value with their James Squire range being $7.40 a schooner."

"Four of us had lunch here today and we all raved about our meals. They have a dedicated Vegan menu (apparently the sous chef is vegan) with lots of choice. Went with the cheese burger and wasn’t disappointed."

"Good size and tasty servings. Enjoyed dumplings, satay chicken and rainbow beef. The fried dumplings were moist and tasty. Rainbow beef cooked just right not overcooked or dry. Steamed dumplings were very plump. Very good!"

"Poor quality frozen squid. lazy cooking and disappointing, chicken wings also poor. I dint know why you wouldn't aim higher. Vege burger shouldn't have boconcini cheese either."

"We really enjoyed our meal here. The meatballs, and the vegeburger, were excellent. The set combinations looked good, but what made it really outstanding was that you can combine meatballs (of several different and interesting flavours) with your choice of accompaniments (I had spicy pork...meatballs on grilled field mushrooms with tomato chilli jam). So the meals do not need to be heavy, and the choices are really wide (from gnocchi to kale). I would think that anyone could find a really satisfying meal on this menu."
