"No bread served or offered, strange. Cocktails were not cold enough on warm! We asked for hot plates, but they were hardly warm. It's very salty. Treacle tart bland with almost no taste...was it brought in? Maidstone needs fine food, but this restauramt has to listen and sort things. What is so difficult with hot plates?"

"Starter meals were fine however the main meal was a let down for my wife. I had the pie of the day which was good with mash and was hot on December 22nd my wife the hot beef brisket sandwich and because it was good decided to have it again yesterday it was completely different the whole meal was cold chips sandwich and even the small pot of gravy were cold she saw no point in sending it back or telling the waitress as we had waited a long time to get our main meals as service was quite slow. All in all a disappointing experience."

"You did our day! friendly employees found us a table, although it was busy and we had no booking. the service was fast and all the employees we talked with were absolutely beautiful. eating was really good, some of the best pub dishes we had. they can say they also take care of the youngest guests: the children's menu is seriously good eating and beautifully presented, which is rare (the photos show what our small child had, yummy! . big desert and also very good coffee at the end. "Do they taste the food?! What a shame. Lovely night out because of the company. The serving staff were friendly and pretty attentive, but the food was not good. My friend and I ordered muscles as a main. The muscles themselves were cleaned and cooked well, and they were nice big muscles. But the whole dish completely lacked flavour. There was hardly any sauce, and what was there appeared to be simply made of unsalted butter and water with some boiled onions thrown in. It was very odd! The muscles were nearly £20 and it was an eye watering £5 for a side of chips. Because dinner was so disappointing (for most one friend enjoyed a nice meal), we opted to finish the meal on high other dessert. I had gyspy tart. The tart itself was yummy, but again, the ice cream completely lacked flavour. It was like they hadn't tasted it. It was so strange. For a place with a typical price point of £30 for a maim course, I'd expect a lot better. I won't be returning. At a final bill of £60 per head (with alcohol), it was vastly overpriced and completely disappointing. Service: 5"

"CR My party of four decided to dine at Cafe Rouge in Maidstone to celebrate a family birthday. The Bread Nibbles that we ordered were very tasty and went down well. For main course, three of us ordered fillet steak with fries and the fourth ordered breaded hake fillet with fries. When the four meals arrived, all the fries were cold. We told the manager who said she didn't want to take the meals back and that she would order some extra fries. These eventually arrived after about ten minutes, which left the diner with the fish eating fish on its own before it too got cold and likewise for the people with the steak. One of the steaks was requested to be cooked medium, but when it arrived it was well done and all three steaks looked dry. It was almost as if the plates had been left on the side in the kitchen after dishing up and had been forgotten. We all ordered a sweet, two of which were good. However the others, which were 2 x 2 scoops of ice cream for a costly total of £9 were literally dropped into a glass without even a tuile or other embellishment in sight. We felt that the food was not very well presented. It could have been understandable if the restaurant was busy, but it was a long way from it. The staff were very friendly and obliging and the manager gave us a discount of £40, but the chef (I use the term loosely) needs speaking to or replacing. It was still a very disappointing experience on what should have been an enjoyable family outing in a restaurant whose prices are near top of the range for food that is mediocre."

"Although everyone was very friendly, our arrival drinks got forgotten one of my friends received a different pie to what she ordered. Luckily it was still tasty. Fish chips were lovely. The coffees were luke warm not very nice. We have eaten there before remembered that the coffee was bad that time. They need to give this some attention. It is in a good location for us as it’s way but would not choose to eat there otherwise"

"We have visited this pub on several occasions and the food is generally good. On a busy Saturday night the place was a bit noisy but that was only to be expected. All four of us enjoyed our meal, the portion size was good and the service was fine. Recommended if you're looking for a reasonably valued gastropub"
