"Four of us went to the Sawyers arms last night..... we have been many times and really love it there. We had heard good reports regarding the renovations and were really looking forward to it. We were shocked and quite disappointed at the quality of the service, food and presentation of the food.We could not notice any of the renovations but heard that they were possibly in the upstairs area, after being seated, we were not offered a drink and had to initiate that ourselves by going to the bar.It really didn't get any better as the night went on..... two of us had the brains for entree and they were dry and overcooked..... very disappointing.... I have had them there before and they were delicious. The rest of the meals with nothing to rave about at all and the presentation was very sloppy and they looked like bar meals rather than upmarket restaurant meals.The homemade ice cream with chocolate sauce was lovely.... but honestly how hard is that! The waiting staff were very substandard...ie... passing meals across the table and not attentive or making us feel welcome and comfortable.The bottom line is it all comes down to the head chef.l and the proprietor..... most of the plates should never have left the kitchen looking so sloppy.... it shows a lack of pride and care and as a customer we really notice those things.....I'm not someone who writes reviews at all but felt that I had to on this occasion...I hope they get back to the great standard that we have loved over the years...."
